Elsie Puritch

December 14, 1915 ~ October 18, 2017 (age 101) 101 Years Old

Elsie Puritch (Baba) passed away peacefully on October 18, 2017 at the Crocus Court Personal Care Home at the age of 101.

Elsie was born December 14, 1915 in MacNutt, Saskatchewan to Mafty and Elena (nee Koral) Wereschuk. She was the only girl and the youngest of nine children.
In 1939, Elsie married Nick Puritch and they started their life together on a farm near San Clara. Together they farmed for 40 years before they retired to their home in Roblin in 1978.

Elsie and Nick were blessed with four children: Edna (1939), Elma (1941), Gordon (1942), and Melvin (1951).

Elsie was the centre of her family. She was an excellent cook and she made sure that her Sunday dinners and special holidays were filled with good food and happy times and she would make the food that each of her children and grandchildren loved. Elsie lived a long and happy life. She found pleasure in being with her family and always had a smile with a twinkle in her eyes. Her warm and caring nature endeared her to all.

After Nick’s passing in 1991, Baba continued to live in her home in Roblin until she was 94 when she moved to her suite in Maple Manor in 2010. She resided there until her move to Crocus Court Personal Care Home in 2012.

Elsie leaves to cherish her memory her children: Edna (Walter) Prokopowich, Elma Chick, and Melvin (Bernice) Puritch; her grandchildren: Dwayne (Lisa) Prokopowich, Dale (Annie) Prokopowich, Dean (Grant) Prokopowich, Dawn (Shawn) Prokopowich, Terri (Dan) Gall, Brent (Courtney) Chick, Ronalda Puritch, Nicole Trichilo, Clint Puritch, and Corrie (Darren) Shewchuk; great-grandchildren: Olivia Bryers, Carter Trichilo, Jackson Prokopowich, Danica Shewchuk, Gavin Shewchuk, Henry Chick, and Ellis Chick; sister-in-law Bella Pronyk; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their families.

Elsie was predeceased by her parents Elena (1933) and Mafty (1948); her husband Nick (1991); her son Gordon (2010); her son-in-law Norm (2011); and her brothers: Alex, Fred, Bill, Leo, George, Mike, John and Pete.

Prayers were held on Thursday, October 26, 2017 from the Sneath-Strilchuk Roblin Chapel.  The funeral service was held on Friday, October 27, 2017 from the St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Roblin, Manitoba with Rev. Father Brent Kuzyk officiating and assisted by the cantors. The casket bearers were Dwayne Prokopowich, Dean Prokopowich, Dale Prokopowich, Brent Chick, Dawn Prokopowich, and Terrie Gall. Banner bearers were Nicole Trichilo and Ronalda Puritch and the cross bearer was Corrie Shewchuk. The interment followed in the St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery.
