Our dear Mom, Wilma Kroll passed away peacefully at the Grandview Personal Care Home on Friday February 2, 2024 at the age of 84.
Wilma was born on January 3, 1940 to Rudolf and Marie Edel. She grieved the loss of her parents, two brothers, Oswald and Edwin Edel, as well as her beloved sister Eleanor Kluin.
Early days were spent attending Shell Vale School and St. John's Lutheran Church in Shevlin. As she got older, Wilma went to work for neighbors by babysitting, housekeeping, or helping with farm duties. At the age of 15 she moved out West to help her sister Eleanor with her young family.
After some time, Wilma returned home to Manitoba. It is joked that upon her return she looked over the fence where she could see the neighbor Harold Kroll hard at work in the field and fell in love. They were married on October 18, 1957.
They were blessed with five children. Being a mother was her greatest joy and fulfillment. She helped her children grow into well rounded adults by being involved with Sunday School, and other Church involvements, 4-H clubs, swimming lessons, choirs, and many family events. She was often on the move, driving her kids to various functions, or picking up parts for Harold. For a few years this was done in her memorable little red Volkswagen beetle.
Farm life meant being a helpmate to Harold. She operated every machine on the farm and took part in all chores always at the ready to grab a wrench or a quick run to town when needed. But there was also a bountiful garden, full pantries, "several" freezers, and ALWAYS baking on the table. She was well know to welcome anyone in for a coffee or a meal at a moments notice! Her biggest pleasure was cooking, especially when the kids came home. No one left her table with an empty stomach!
Wilma had many talents that kept her busy, such as sewing, cutting hair, and decorating wedding and other specialty cakes. She loved throwing parties for anniversaries, birthdays, or just dinner parties, sometimes involving a "jam session" if anyone with a musical instrument attended.
Church life was very important to her. She took part as a Sunday school Teacher, Secretary of the Ladies Aide, and singing in the choir.
Wilma was predeceased by her husband Harold Kroll in 2004, and recently by her dear son David Kroll in December 2023.
Left to mourn her passing are her children, daughter Deborah (Bernard) Belland, son Joseph Kroll, daughter Pamela (Mike) Wiwchar, and daughter Mary-Lou (Roy) Dueck; 11 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews, and Kenny Zimmer show became part of the family.
Memorial donations may be kindly directed to the Shevlin Lutheran Cemetery.
Funeral Service were held on Friday, February 9, 2024 at 10:00 am from St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Roblin, MB with Pastor Barry Wood officiating. Wilma's earthly remains were laid to rest at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Shelvin, until the day of resurrection.
