Obituary

Walter James Worrall

Walter James Worrall of Ste. Rose du Lac passed away on Tuesday, September 20, 2022 at the Dr. Gendreau Personal Care Home at the age of 93 years.

Walter was born on November 2, 1928 in Davidson, SK. He attended Maple Valley School until the spring of 1937 when the family moved to Ste. Amelie, MB .

He later attended trade school and attended Musker Engineering Institute. Walter pursued a career in mechanics which took him to Vancouver. Upon his return to Ste. Rose du Lac in 1949, Walter and his brother Bernard worked for Pinette, Downey and Monteyne, the local John Deere dealership.

Walter married Donna Mary Stroesser in 1953 and the following year their son Wayne was born. In 1955, they were blessed with their second child; daughter Karen. Three months after Karen was born, the family moved to Sioux Lookout, ON where Walter worked as a mechanic for General Motors. It was several years later when they were blessed for a third time when their daughter Phyllis was born in 1963 in Ste. Rose.

In the spring of 1960, Walter and his brother Bernard decided to go into partnership in a Case Implement dealership. After 10 years, Walter opened Worrall's Air-Cooled Engine and Marine and Radiator in Ste Rose which he operated until retirement. The business was sold to his son Wayne in 1985.

In retirement, Walter devoted time to the restoration of old cars including his Desoto, Ford Galaxy and a Model-T.  Walter entered the Desoto and the Galaxy in many competitions and parades around Manitoba and received numerous awards.   His wife Donna supported all of his endeavors and they enjoyed restoring these vehicles together. Donna passed away on January 1, 1990 and she was missed by Walter and the family. In the years following her passing Walter enjoyed the company and friendship of Del Laderoute and Viola Neiman and their families. Walter enjoyed camping, traveling and spending time with his family and friends. But most of all, Walter loved to go for his drives to explore and reminise about the past.

Walter leaves to mourn his passing and cherish many fond memories; his children; son Wayne (Kathy) Worrall), daughters Karen Desjardins (Monte Furkalo) and Phyllis Worrall (Paul Dernier), his grandchildren Dale Worrall, Candice Worrall, Shannon Desjardins (Clint), Ivan Desjardins (Raquel), Derek Worrall, and Jarod Desjardins, his great grandchildren Kittanna Clark, Kamea Clark, Alexa Desjardins, Taryn Desjardins, Brooklyn Desjardins, Ian, Joel and Roman Desjardins, his brother Bernard (Simone) Worrall along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
