Waltraut “Wallie” Penrose passed away peacefully on October 7, 2025. She was predeceased by her husband, Murray Penrose (2002). A beloved mother, wife, and Oma, Wallie was a force of love and kindness in our lives. Her quick wit and dry humour made her a joy to be around, and her easy laugh reminded everyone not to take life too seriously.
She is survived by her children Michael (Denise), Diane (Glenn), and Daphne; her grandchildren Megan, Riley, Darian, Brock, and Jake; and many dear friends. Wallie’s memory will live on through the stories and love she shared.
Born on October 16, 1936, in Northeim, Germany, Wallie immigrated to Canada in 1954. She first landed in Nova Scotia and later made her way to Winnipeg, where her sister Annie lived. There she met Murray, and they were married on September 7, 1957.
They soon moved to Dauphin, Manitoba, where Murray began his career and Wallie became a full-time mother and wife. Among her most significant accomplishments was raising her three children, whom she held as her pride and joy. She was actively involved in her children’s extracurriculars and in the Lions Club of Dauphin, volunteering her time for many community initiatives throughout her years there.
Wallie had a remarkable way of making everyone feel like family. The neighbourhood children often gathered at her home—drawn by her kindness, her laughter, and her open door. Known by her grandchildren as “Oma,” she was affectionately called the same by all who knew her, a quiet reflection of the way she made everyone feel like family.
In 2008, Wallie moved to Winnipeg to be near her growing family and to share more time with her grandchildren. She quickly became the heart of every family gathering—always ready with a story, a joke, or a word of encouragement.
In her final years, Wallie resided at Rosewood Retirement Home & Memory Care in Winnipeg, where her gentle nature and bright smile touched the hearts of residents and staff alike. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Rosewood and at the Saul and Claribel Simkin Centre for their exceptional care and compassion.
We will miss Oma dearly but celebrate the extraordinary affection she gave so freely. Her patience, joy, and laughter will always live in our hearts.
