Wallace Michayluk Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Wally Michayluk, on November 24, 2022 at the Dauphin Personal Care Home at the age of 81 years.

Wallace James Michayluk was the first born of six children to parents John and Mary (Strilchuk) Michayluk on March 28, 1941 in Dauphin, MB.

Wally grew up and attended school with his sisters and many cousins in the Ripon School District in the RM of Dauphin.  When he was old enough, he and Dolly the horse, pulling a caboose, made the trek across country (3 miles) to school picking up many along the way.

He had many experiences in his young adult life that he would tell stories about, travelling to Lynn Lake, MB to work at his uncle’s store, back in Dauphin, shoveling coal from train cars for Buckwold’s, working at Dennison’s Chevrolet Car Dealership, a healthcare orderly at St. Paul’s Personal Care Home, only to name a few.

In October 1961 he married his sweetheart, Lena Fedorchuk, at the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Resurrection. In October 1962 they welcomed their first child, Katherine Dawn. Within the next year they ventured north, back to the Ripon District and set up their own farm yard on the quarter section adjacent to his parents.  In December 1964 they welcomed their second daughter Genevieve Carol.

The farm acres were a mix of grain and alfalfa that sustained cattle, hogs and chickens. Wally became a jack of all trades.  He was a self taught carpenter, mechanic, and welder.  Along with farming he took on a side job of driving school bus. He did this for many years until he made the decision to rent out his farm land to his brother-in-law Richard and take a full time job with McMunn and Yates Building Supplies as a truck driver. He made deliveries of building supplies all over Manitoba and lots to Northern Manitoba. He eventually hung up his trucker hat and took the position of lumber yard foreman.  His career with McMunn and Yates lasted for 25 years, he retired at age 60.

In 1997 his wife Lena passed away from cancer, this left a huge void in his life.  He was lucky to find great companionship and love and a new extended family with Donna Hrehirchuk a few years later.  They spent over 20 wonderful years together.

Wally enjoyed country living, he took pride in keeping a pristine yard site. The family cottage on the shore of Stoney Point Beach on Lake Dauphin was a favorite place to go and relax. He always enjoyed attending auction sales, visiting with friends and neighbors and coming home with a few or many treasures.

He had many great years after he retired. Over the last few years his health began to deteriorate, eventually he needed extended care, so by his choice along with his families, he moved into the personal care home.  We thank the staff and doctors for their compassionate care during his time there.

Wally was predeceased by his wife Lena of 36 years; his parents; his brother-in-law Andy Dingwell; and his nephew Wade Borys.

He is survived by his daughters, Katherine (Douglas) Ault, Genevieve (George) Carriere; grandchildren Fabien (Gertrud) Carriere, Gabrielle Carriere (Derrek Shewchuk), Kirsten (Erik) Vanbeselaere, Andrew (Kristianna) Ault; great grandchildren, Jake, Oliver & Reece Carriere, Brexley & Leo Vanbesaelaere, Grayson & Jace Ault; his partner of over 20 years Donna Hrehirchuk; her children, daughter Brenda (Ted) Doell, grandchildren Tyler, Amy, Lisa & Sean, son Brian (Lindsay) Hrehirchuk, grandchildren Ryland & Rhett, daughter Kathy (Bryan) Preston, grandchildren Eric, Katelynn & Ashley, daughter Karen (Kris) Wilson, grandchildren Robert & Nolan; his sisters, Sonia (Art) Sainsbury, Gloria Dingwell, Diane (Lou) Simonelli, Pat (Richard) Borys, Sally (Marven) Giggie; along with many nieces and nephews, extended family members and friends.
