Verna Miller Obituary

It is with broken hearts we announce the sudden passing of Verna May (Bruce) Miller, age 82, of Dauphin, Manitoba on Saturday, June 6, 2020.
Verna was born on July 20, 1937 in Saltcoats, Saskatchewan to Dave and Helen (Gibson) Bruce.  The youngest of 8 children, Verna lived a colorful and adventure-filled life.  After moving off the family farm she lived in British Columbia, then Alberta before moving back to Saskatchewan. When living and working in Regina she met her then future husband, Jerry.  They married on February 25, 1961 and raised two daughters, Barbara and Andrea, and one son Gregory.  They moved to Manitoba in the late 60's, settling in Dauphin in 1972.
After retiring from a long career with Cargill Ltd. golf is what kept her busy in the summer months and curling in the winter.  If you couldn't find her on the course or at the rink you would always be sure to find her in her flower gardens or taking a stroll by the creek at the farm.
She very much enjoyed her gardens at the farm and was very proud that Barb was taking care of the beds she so meticulously tended to while living at the farm.  Travelling was another favorite pastime of Verna's.  She travelled the world with friends and family, but some of her most favorite adventures were the road trips she would take with Andrea to pick up parts for the farm and peruse through fabric shops.  Not one to shy away from a challenge one of her fondest memories, one which always brought on the most laughs, was of the summer she helped Greg to cut and bale hay.
Verna loved her family very much and felt so lucky to have been able to play such a big role in her grandchildren's lives as well as be a part of their own families as they've grown, and started having children of their own.  She will forever be remembered for her raspberry picking, jam making, straight shooting demeanor, beautiful smile, and quick wit.
Verna was predeceased by her parents, siblings, husband Jerry and beloved son Greg. she is survived by her two daughters Barbara Miller (Glenn Zurba) and Andrea Zurba (Alden); four grandchildren, Alicia Zurba (Benji Husband), Kyle Zurba (Jenna), Matthew Zurba (Naomi), Alexandria Rosolowsky (Andrew); six great-grandchildren Mickayla, Addisyn, Ryder, Marlie, Claire and Maiclyn; many cousins, nieces, nephews and loving friends.

A private service was held to honor Verna's life after which she will be laid to rest at the Dauphin Riverside Cemetery.

Donations in memory of Verna can be made to the Sandra Schmirler Foundation (www.sandraschmirler.org) or to the Dauphin Junior Curling Academy, payable to DCCC Junior Program at Fusion Credit Union (Account # 110412359967).
