Verna Stella Brazeau (nee Langan) passed away peacefully in the early hours on December 14, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on March 19, 1944 in Boggy Creek, MB to Albert and Emma Langan.
She was raised on the farm in Boggy Creek until she moved to Winnipeg to find employment. She worked at a candy factory with her cousins and then at a different factory making batteries. She met Jules Brazeau at a party in Winnipeg, and they married in 1965 and later welcomed their first child, Adrian. They welcomed 2 more children, Julien and Vanessa and eventually settled in the little village of San Clara, MB where they made that their home in 1976 and stayed right until this past June 2025. Verna was a stay-at-home mom while her husband worked away from home.
Verna enjoyed gardening, canning, knitting and crocheting and was not too bad on the sewing machine where she made a lot of blankets. Verna enjoyed playing cards and visiting with her friends and catching up on the latest news with her friend Geraldine. She also enjoyed going to bingo with her friends. She would get picked up by Verna Bouvier and Verna Winters and off they’d go in hopes of winning. The 3 Verna’s would leave laughing and usually come home with long faces. When Verna’s husband was home, they enjoyed going fishing and spending their Saturday’s shopping and just being together.
Once Jules retired, they were able to spend more time doing the things they enjoyed. Being out in San Clara, they had regular visitors and enjoyed different events in the community. Verna was usually one to volunteer and was involved with the Catholic Women’s League and the San Clara/Boggy Creek Metis Local. She also volunteered with the San Clara Curling Club and enjoyed curling. She always attended church and took a lot of pride in helping Father set up the altar for mass. After she became sick, she worried about who was going to help Father. Verna’s faith was very important to her.
One of the greatest joys in Verna’s life was becoming a grandmother and hearing about all the important events in their lives. Christmas was always celebrated with Verna making a big dinner for all the family. She was a great cook, and people always requested her bannock and we all loved her perogies. She passed along that torch to her daughter Vanessa, who has some big shoes to fill.
2025 had some major milestones and hardships for Verna. They decided it was time to sell their home and move to Roblin at the Maple Manor and they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. They were adjusting to life in the apartment nicely when Verna was diagnosed with cancer. Even though Verna was feeling unwell, she always cared how other people were doing and would make a point to call them or ask about them. Verna eventually was admitted to the Roblin District Health Centre where she was visited by many friends and family and her devoted husband daily until her passing.
Verna was predeceased by her parents Albert and Emma; brothers Lawrence, Lennice and Donald; along with sister Pauline. Verna’s greatest loss was her son, Adrian in 2020. It helps ease some of our pain knowing they are reunited again.
Verna is survived by her husband, Jules, her son Julien (April), daughter Vanessa (Wyman); her grandchildren Madison, Reilly, Jada and Jaxyn; one brother, Roy (Darlene) along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Prayers were held on Friday, December 19, 2025 at 7:00 pm from the Sneath Strilchuk Funeral Chapel in Roblin, MB.
A Funeral Mass was held for Verna on Saturday, December 20, 2025 at 10:00 am from the Ste. Claire's Roman Catholic Church in San Clara, MB with Father Rene Katcha Digba officiating.
