Velma Graham of Dauphin, Manitoba, formerly of Binscarth, MB, passed away on Saturday, November 2, 2024 at the age of 95 years.
Velma Louise (Murdoch) Graham was born January 8, 1929 in Ingleside S.D. SK. She was the only child born to Walter (Mac) McCormick and Ida May (Yont) Murdoch. She was raised in the Crosby S.D. going to school at Crosby School, a one room school, from Grades 1-10. In 1945 the family moved to Binscarth where she completed Grade 11. After a 6 week Normal Course she taught school at Ekford S.D. near Kellee on a 1 year permit. Realizing teaching wasn't for her, she then started at the Royal Bank in Binscarth, continuing for 4 years.
In 1951 Velma married Harry Graham. After a short stint in Hamiota, the family moved back to Binscarth were Velma resided until 2007.
Velma was a homemaker, a job she took very seriously. There was always baking fresh on the counter, and backup in the freezer. She made all kinds of jams and jellies, who can forget the rows and rows of raspberries! Garden produce was canned or frozen.
She was a life member of both the Eastern Star in Foxwarren, and the Binscarth United Church. She held many offices in both. In 1986 Velma, along with John and Bruce were part of the Binscarth Community Centennial Choir. Her love of music has been passed along to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In 2007 Velma relocated to Lorray Manor in Dauphin, and then 2 years later to St. Paul's Personal Care Home until her passing November 2, 2024.
Velma lived for her family. They had 6 children: Dianna (Don), Walter George (Buddy), her little lamb born in 1953 passed in 1955, Bruce (Tracey), Joy (Harris), John {Enid), Henry (Kathy). Also surviving Velma are 12 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Pre-deceasing Velma are her parents, husband Harry, son Walter and grandson Colin.
The family would like to thank the staff of Lorray Manor for making Velma's transition to Dauphin so easy. We would like to express our gratitude to the staff of St. Paul's Personal Care Home for the 15 years of exemplary kindness and care, given to our Mom. And many thanks to her special friend Stephanie Hadway for her loving companionship.
A Funeral Service will be held for Velma on Saturday, November 9, 2024 at 2:00 pm from the Binscarth Hall in Binscarth with Rev. Elaine Dixon officiating.
Interment will follow in the Binscarth Cemetery.
