Theresa Gulak Obituary

On February 24, 2021, with family by her side, Theresa Gulak peacefully passed away in the Grandview Hospital.
Theresa is predeceased by her loving husband Joe of 37 years, mother Emily, father Nick, son Garry, mother-in-law Mary, and father-in-law George. Theresa will be remembered and forever cherished by her daughters Tammie (Brian) and Tracey (Rick), daughter-in-law Teresa, her 7 grandchildren Chris, Josh (Kas), Tamara (Shane), Nicholas (Nicolette), Tia (Dustin), Justin, and Tenley, 4 great-grandchildren Brexton, Theo, Mila, and Hannah, siblings Joyce, Hope, Sonia (Brian), Dennis (Norma), Mary Jayne, and Michael (Wendy) and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
The oldest of 7 children, Theresa was born to parents Emily and Nick Bataluk on their Ethelbert family homestead on August 18th, 1935. In her younger years, she attended the Sulfur Creek School up to grade 8 and continued to work on the family farm. At 16, she moved away from home to work at a General Store and Post Office in the Inglis area. She later moved to Gilbert Plains to work at the Plains Bakery, where she found her love to bake.
She married Joe Gulak in 1956, who together had 3 children, Garry, Tammie, and Tracey. Over the years she loved to cook, kept an immaculate house, and was highly skilled with knitting needles.
As the children grew older, Theresa began decorating cakes out of her home. She would decorate for many different occasions, from extravagant wedding cakes to simple birthday cakes. But her skills in the kitchen did not end there, as she hosted many gatherings for her family and was always happy to send some perogies, cheese rolls, or her famous apple pies home with you after a visit.
In the community, Theresa put her sewing skills to good use, as she made costumes for both the majorettes club and Veselka Dance Club. She was also a sewing and craft instructor for the Gilbert Plains 4-H club.
Up to 2019, she always had an extensive garden full of flowers, fruits, and vegetables that was carefully maintained and tended to.
Theresa’s grandchildren were her pride and joy. She was always happy to attend hockey tournaments, skating competitions, and high school sports to cheer her grandchildren on.
Throughout the years, Theresa filled many roles and touched many hearts. She will be forever missed.
The family wished to send a special thank you to Dr. Elliot and the staff at Grandview Hospital who were like a second family and provided care to Theresa during her hospital stay while the Covid-19 restrictions were in place and family visits were limited.

A private gathering was held at Sneath-Strilchuk Family Care Centre in Dauphin, on Monday, March 1, 2021 at 11:00 am with Rev. Fr. Yaroslav Strukhlyak officiating

Interment followed in the Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery in Gilbert Plains.
