Terrence 'Terry' Sutherland Obituary

An Extraordinary Life Well Lived

Suddenly on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, Terrence ‘Terry’ Philip Sutherland, of Roblin, Manitoba was called home to be with the Lord after a lengthy illness with heart disease at the St. Boniface General Hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba, at the age of 77.

Terry was born on March 6, 1948, in Brandon, Manitoba to Loreen Turner and John Sutherland. He grew up on a farm in Souris, MB raised predominantly by his grandmother. After his childhood, he ventured out to experience the world. He initially studied accounting in university, but he did not like it. The aviation industry ignited his passion however and he obtained his pilot license and became an aircraft maintenance engineer. His career took him to many places including Inuvik, Yellowknife, Calgary, Vancouver, Nairobi, and Kenya. Terry eventually found himself working in Norway House, Manitoba in 1994 and on August 13, 1994, he met his soulmate, Ivy McIvor. Together they travelled and raised her children. Terry played a big role as a dad; one he wasn’t obligated to, but he honoured deeply.

In later years, Terry experienced an injury at work, which opened the door for yet another opportunity. He was re-trained as an educator and taught at school prior to retirement. He held a class 7 teaching degree. After retirement, Terry kept busy with various odd jobs such as helping students obtain GED’s, teaching newcomers to Canada the English language just to name a few. Terry was also heavily involved and thoroughly enjoyed his hobby with The Ham Radio; he belonged to the Parkland Amateur Radio Club. He also assisted people to get their licenses by being the examiner and helping them through that process. He always looked forward to spending his time at Red Deer River where he had a cabin.

Terry leaves to cherish his memory, his loving soulmate Ivy McIvor of Roblin, MB; her children, Aaron Arthurson of Norway House, MB, Angela McIvor of Thompson, MB, Derek McIvor (Gloria) of Thompson, MB, and Kim McIvor (Ian Taylor) of Stonewall, MB; grandchildren, Kelly, Curtis, Seth, Eden, Jasmaine, Morgan, and Maximus; Great granddaughter, Alexis; Sister, Marilyn (Craig) Morrison of Souris, MB; brother, Donald Sutherland of Brandon, MB; and nephews, Sean and Hudson; best friend, Glen Harding of Calgary, AB; as well as numerous extended relatives and friends. Terry was predeceased by his parents, Loreen Ruth Sutherland (nee Turner) and John Stewart Sutherland, his grandparents and many aunts and uncles.

A viewing and prayer service was held in Terry’s honour on Monday, July 14, 2025, at 7 PM at Sneath-Strilchuk Funeral Services-Roblin Chapel (121 Third Ave. NW Roblin, MB R0L 1P0) with cremation to follow.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in Terry’s memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba (1379 Kenaston Blvd. Winnipeg, MB R3P 2T5).

The family would like to thank Dr. Peters of Russell, MB and the nursing staff of Russell Health Centre for the care they gave Terry, the St. Boniface Emergency department team, the cardiology team in Regina, SK, and the spiritual care department ensuring Terry was well cared for. Thank you to everyone who stopped by.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways, acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.”
