Tammy Recknell Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Tammy Alayne Margaret Recknell announce her untimely passing on May 16th, 2025 at the age of 59 years. Tammy was a mother, daughter, sister, niece, cousin, aunt, and dependable friend to countless individuals and community members. She was born January 7th, 1966 to Dawn and Glen Recknell, the first of their two children. Arriving home from the hospital in time to celebrate her dads 18th birthday, Tammy was born to be a gift to our world. While Tammy spent her early childhood in Victoria, BC and Devon, AB it would ultimately be the family’s move to Ochre River in 1974 where Tammy established a deep connection to her community. Tammy grew up on the Recknell family farm, working hard alongside her parents and brother and making memories with extended family, new friends and loyal pets. Pursuing education after primary school in Winnipeg, MB, Tammy would go on to build connections with people and families far and wide, but the call home persisted and she returned to country life in the early 90s . Homecare was Tammy’s passion, and the countless relationships she held with her clients spoke to her dependability throughout her career as she loved her work and those she worked with. Within her relationship with Wayne Thompson, Tammy would joyously welcome the birth of her only child, Layne, in 2003.
Tammy will be most missed by her son Layne, loving mother Dawn, brother Shane, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. She is predeceased by her dad and role-model Glen in 2021, with whom she shared a deep father-daughter connection lasting longer than time itself.
Tammy was an active member of the Ochre River community, volunteering at the school’s field day activities, providing endless laughter within her acting in local plays, offering her support wherever and whenever she got the chance, and annually being the best decorated house for Christmas and Halloween, for which she proudly won awards. Tammy’s lakeside bbq cooking will perhaps be most missed by those lucky enough to have sat at her table, with leftovers being a guarantee as she often cooked enough to feed a village. Her love can be most reflected in the years of close ties and memories, with summers at the lake and time spent with friends and family, paving the way for stories of camping trips gone wrong, high-speed Sea-doo rides, and the occasional firework mishap.
Tammy lived life to the fullest, without a doubt, we who remain can only go forward hoping to lead our own lives in her fashion, being there when people need us most and always finding a reason to smile. Tammy will forever be in each season’s breeze and live forever in the hearts of those she touched with her kindness, support, and humour.
