Sylvia Mary Leonard (nee Lozinski) passed away peacefully in St. Paul's Home on July 15th in Dauphin, Manitoba at the age of 80. Sylvia will be remembered by her three daughters and their husbands: Wanda and Kevin Benterud, Shelley and Bob Tucker, Angela and Darrel Cragg, and her cherished grandchildren and their partners: Corey Tucker and Lisa Murray, Maria and Sean Lawrencesson, Elisa and Fraser Genuis, Lyndsey Tucker and Cole Easton, Kendra and Daniel Bovenschen, Anna Cragg, Cortney Tucker, Mikayla Benterud, and Lauren Benterud. Sylvia was born on May 8, 1940 in Cudworth, Saskatchewan to Peter and Theresa Lozinski. She married her 'best guy', Ken Leonard, on August 5, 1961 and they made their home together on the Cameron Trail east of Dauphin, later moving into town and creating a lovely home on a beautiful property by the river. Sylvia loved harvest time on the farm, in Saskatchewan when she was a girl and later, in the Dauphin area. The family relocated to the Ochre River District in July 1946. She attended the Bay Centre School, a one-room country school close to her home, finished grade 10 and went on to Business college in Winnipeg to learn secretarial skills. She returned to Dauphin to work at the Dauphin Creamery, married Ken, and settled on the farm to raise her daughters. Later, after working at several jobs, she went back to school to upgrade her courses and get her bookkeeping certification. She held a number of bookkeeping positions, her favourite of which was with the Rampton family at Gartmore Farms. She also established her own seamstress business, Syvia's Sewing, where she blessed many people with her beautiful custom garments. Sylvia's daughters remember her as a generous, hard-working woman who did her very best to give her family a good life. She loved putting on parties, singing and dancing, and creating abundant vegetable and flower gardens. She always had the coffee pot on at anytime for anyone who stopped by, was an excellent cook, and adored each and every one of her grandchildren. She also loved sewing for her family, even creating the three wedding gowns her daughters wore on their special days. To her grandchildren, she passed on her love for good food, her Ukrainian heritage, her love for music and dance, her creative spirit, and her open heart of hospitality. We will dance with you again one day in Glory. And love you forever, Mom.
A Funeral Service was held for Sylvia on Friday, July 24, 2020 11:00 am at the Sneath-Strilchuk Family Care Center, interment followed at Riverside Cemetery.
