It is with heavy hearts that the family of Steve Pokotylo of Dauphin, formerly of Fork River, announces his passing Saturday, June 13, 2020 at the Dauphin Personal Care Home at the age of 86 years.
Steve was the oldest child of Anthony and Nellie (Kotz) Pokotylo. He was born February 28, 1934 on the family farm in the Rural Municipality of Mossey River. He attended Zelana School. After leaving school, he worked for several years on the family farm. In Churchill, he worked for the National Harbours Board at the elevator for several years. He then purchased his own land and farmed with his father. After his father’s retirement, Steve continued farming. In 1976, he sold the farm and purchased a home in Dauphin where Steve and his parents Anthony and Nellie Pokotylo lived for many years. While in Dauphin, Steve worked for Pepsi, for the camper trailer factory, and for Clark Cleaning.
Steve was predeceased by his parents, Anthony and Nellie Pokotylo, his sister Pauline, and his brother-in-law Frank Unser.
He is survived by his brother Harry (Evelyn) Pokotylo of Winnipeg, his sister Anne Pokotylo of Calgary, his brother Ivan (Gaye) Pokotylo of Winnipeg, and his sister Joyce (Larry) Milowski of Headingley.
Also surviving are his nephews and nieces; Danny (Gayle) Pokotylo and their children Hannah and Larissa, Christine (Ken) Blackner and their children Jake and Emily, Betty Pokotylo; Beverley (Ryan) McCall, Bonnie (Domonique) Frigon and their children Vincent and Geneviève;
Garry Pokotylo, Sharon Pokotylo, Maria (Mark) Nunn and their son Aiden; Brodie Milowski , Rhiannon Milowski and her children Andon and Ashla.
Steve was a very hard worker. He was always willing to assist others in whatever way he could.
Steve was always there for his Dad and Mom. Our family will always be grateful for his love and dedication to them.
A funeral service was held for Steve on Monday June 29, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. from the Sneath-Strilchuk Family Care Centre in Dauphin with Rev. Father Brent Kuzyk officiating. Interment followed in the Riverside Cemetery in Dauphin. Should friends so desire, donations in memory of Steve may be made to St George’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Dauphin.
