Stanley Saramaga passed away at the Dauphin Personal Care Home on Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at the age of 88 years.
Stanley was born on October 19, 1933 at Dauphin, MB to parents Fred and Ann Saramaga (Chetyrbok). He attended Halicz School, then went directly into mixed farming.
Stan lived and farmed in the RM of Gilbert Plains to 1980 when he moved to Dauphin to look after his parents. He kept on farming to 1983. Stanley married Olga Garlinski in 1984. At the age of 50 Stan graciously and with ease took on the role of husband, dad "always tato", and geedgee. His life long passion was to become a priest but unfortunately his family commitments kept him from achieving his dream. He worked for the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of St. George's from 1980 to 2008. He also served many years as a church elder. In 2007 he & Olga moved to St. George's Place where they had many good years of socializing, gardening and just enjoying life.
Interests always centered around his church. He was president of Holy Ghost Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Valley River for many years. Was also a member of the Ukrainian Orthodox Young Men's Society and in the early years used to drive from the farm to volunteer his time at bingo and other activities. He was quite involved in the church's fund raising "perohy suppers" whereby in the beginning he was the main dough maker. He also had great skills and interest in making paskas, babas and koloches. Throughout the years he acquired great skills in ear candling.
Stanley was predeceased by his parents Fred and Anne; grandparents; brothers-in-law Peter Weselowski and Bob Demkiw; stepson Mark Garlinski; father-in-law Walter Demkiw; mother-in-law Kay Basaraba.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Olga; stepson Albert (Cindy) Garlinski of Winnipeg, granddaughter Elisa (Wes) Wiebe, great grandchildren Brynlee, Brielle, Scarlett and Rebekah Wiebe of Selkirk; stepson Edward (Margaret) Garlinski of The Pas, grandson Carl Garlinski of Vancouver; sister Stella Weselowski; brothers-in-law John (Connie) Demkiw, Eugene (Angie) Demkiw; as well as cousins.
