Sophie Plesiuk

Sophie Plesiuk of Brandon, MB , formerly of Ethelbert,  passed away on Tuesday, December 4, 2018 at the age of 90 years.

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of the matriarch of our family from the complications due to lung disease.  At the time of her passing Sophie was ninety years old and for the last three years resided at the Dinsdale Personal Care Home in Brandon, MB.
Sophie was born on the farm in Fork River, MB to Jacob and Marie (Kowalchuk) Pokotylo. Sophie went to Pine View School completing Grade Seven, then worked the farm till as a young adult when she ventured to worked at the Winnipeg General Hospital.  Sophie married Peter Plesiuk on 28 October 1950 and farmed together in Ukraina till 1966.  They moved to Ethelbert and in 1968 started their own family business “Pete’s Gulf Service”.  They retired and sold the business to their son Michael in 1984.
Sophie is survived by her four children Dianne Jasen, Jo-Ann (husband Rene) Beauchemin, Michael (wife Maxine), Barbara (husband Chris) Dixon; grandchildren Kristina, Andrew, Heather (husband Adam), Chris (wife Kory), Nikki (husband Joe), Dana (husband Scott), Margaret (husband Joshua) and Ben (wife Lauren); great grandchildren Eli, Sophie, Mason, Bow, Clara, Lucas, Bethany, Evie, Lincoln; sister Pauline, brother Elmer, sister-in-law Olga Plesiuk and many nieces and nephews.   Sophie is predeceased by her husband Pete, son-in-law Alex, siblings Olga, Nellie, John, and Stella.
Sophie will always be remembered by her grandchildren who considered her home as a sanctuary where they could be themselves and her famous menu of perogies and pepsi for breakfast and chicken noodle soup and bologna sandwiches for lunch.
Should friends so desire; donations in memory of Sophie may be made to the Lung Association of Manitoba. 

Funeral Service was held on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at 10:00 am from Sneath-Strilchuk Family Care Centre in Dauphin, MB with Rev. Father Brent Kuzyk officiating.  Interment followed in Sts. Peter & Paul Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery in Ethelbert, Manitoba.  Pallbearers were Christopher Plesiuk, Nikki Hill, Benjamin Dixon, Heather Pirie, Andrew Beauchemin, Dana Wismer, Maggie Lytle, Kristina Jasen.
