Shirley Ann Martinson was born on May 18, 1934, and grew up on the family farm north of Gilbert Plains. She attended the Deer Park School and later completed a secretary's course at Little's Business College in Dauphin. Thereafter, she was employed at the MTS office in Dauphin for a few years.
On September 27, 1956, Shirley married Harvey Symchych and soon after they purchased and moved to the farm that is situated across from where she grew up. Shirley enjoyed and worked hard caring for her family and looking after the house and farm yard. Shirley greatly loved being with family and friends and she also deeply loved our heavenly Father and tried to do her best in worshipping and obeying him, being baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses on June 19, 1949.
Shirley died on March 23, 2021, and interment was at a private graveside service held at the Eldon Cemetery in Gilbert Plains. The family finds much comfort in realizing that while the graveyard reminds us of the brevity of life, the Bible's promised resurrection reminds us of the brevity of death.
Shirley was predeceased by her parents, Raymond and Elsie; father in law Michael; mother in law Rose; brothers in law Edward and Tony; and sister in law Stella (Walter).
Shirley is survived by her loving husband of 64 years Harvey; sons Brian (Glennis), Wayne (Loretta), and Kerry; brother Kenneth; sister Betty; brother in law Sidney (Marlene); and sisters in law Adeline (Walter), and Diane; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
