Shirley Frykas

Shirley Frykas of Mink Creek, MB passed away peacefully on Friday, August 15, 2025 at the Russell Health Centre at the age of 77 years.

Shirley was born September 7th, 1947 at Dauphin Regional Hospital and was the first of four children for Walter and Dorothy Bodnarchuk of Pine River, MB. Shirley received her education at Pine River High School.

On October 10, 1970 she married Morris Frykas in the Mink Creek Holy Trinity Church. Morris and Shirley had two sons Kelly in 1971 and Jason in 1974. Following their marriage, they moved to Winnipeg for a brief five years before returning to the Frykas Homestead in Mink Creek, building a home in which they still reside. Through her younger years of life she was a skilled homemaker and loved picking mushrooms, raising and caring for the farm animals and was a wonderful cook of the family's favourite Ukrainian dishes and canning preserves. In her later years she enjoyed shopping, watching wrestling and catching up with her favorite soap opera.

Left to mourn Shirley is her devoted husband Morris of 55 years; sons Kelly and Jason (Tamara) along with grandchildren Jarrett, Jonah and Methias.  She will also be missed by her brother Ernie Bodnarchuk and sisters Beverely Aplain and Carol Prokopowich along with many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service was held on Friday, August 22, 2025 at 1:00 pm from Sneath-Strilchuk Family Care Centre in Dauphin, MB.

Interment followed in the Mink Creek Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery in Mink Creek, MB.
