Sam Kousins Obituary

It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness we announce the unexpected passing of Sam (Kuchma) Kousins, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and uncle, in the early morning of January 31st, 2024 at the age of 80 years.

He was born on March 29th, 1943 in Ethelbert, MB to Peter Kuchma & Justina (Plesiuk) Kuchma.  He was the second oldest son in the family of four.

In 1965 he married Marie Hryhoruk.  They had two sons, Micheal Vincent and Reese Todd.

Sam worked at many jobs throughout his life.  Just to name a few, Hatch Construction, Gold Mine in Red Lake, Inco, Gene's Cartiage, Patty Harrison, Martin Motors, Dauphin Co-op.

He then formed a company called K & K Backhoe with his brother Morris.  They operated several years putting in rural water and sewer systems.  He later went on his own and contracted with Manitoba Telephone System for years.

In his senior years he tried long haul trucking but after a couple of trips, that wasn't for him, so he moved on to working for the Kropelnicki Brothers in his home town of Sifton.  In his spare time he and his wife looked after Sifton Beach & Stoney Point Beach in the summer for a number of years.

After he retired from all physical labor he took great joy in hobby bee keeping.  He spent many hours with "his" bees.  Just sitting watching them bringing in pollen or building special hives for them.  He also loved going to pick morels when he was able.  In his younger years he loved curling, fishing and hunting.

Sam is predeceased by his parents Peter & Justina Kuchma; his grandparents Panko & Mary Plesiuk; his in-laws Nick & Tina (Dubnyk) Hryhoruk; brothers-in-law, Carmine Armentti, Joe & Mike Hryhoruk, Bill Lundy & Lawrence Sass; and one nephew Robert Kuchma.

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years Marie; sons Micheal & Todd (Christine Sherlock). Grandsons, Destrie Kousins, DeVaughn Kousins & Kale Kousins.  One sister Sylvia Armentti from Gimli; two brothers Morris & Anne Kuchma from Kelowna, BC, Paul & Angie Kuchma from Sifton;  sisters-in-law Pauline Sass, Anny Lundy & Vickie Swerbus (Bill); and 10 nieces and 11 nephews, whom he was very close to.

As per his wishes cremation has taken place.
A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.
