Sally Makowski Obituary

It is with deep sadness the family announce the passing of Sally Elizabeth Makowski (nee: Romaniuk) on September 8th, 2021 at Dauphin Regional Hospital at the age of 86 after injuries she sustained in an accident.  She was a cancer survivor having battled colon cancer in the months prior to her passing and was recently deemed cancer free.

She will be sadly missed by her children, Garry Makowski of Dauphin, MB and Connie (Sean) Sodomsky of Winnipeg, MB; three grandchildren, Shawn (Jane) Barrit of Winnipeg, MB, Michelle (Steve) Wahl of Oakbank, MB and Ethan Sodomsky of Winnipeg, MB and one great grandchild, Mack Barrit of Winnipeg.

Sally is survived by four brothers, Russell (Eleanor) Romanick of Thunder Bay, ON, Orest (Donna) Romaniuk of Brandon, MB, Mike (Sylvia) Romaniuk of Ethelbert, MB and David (Carole) Romanick of Sherwood Park, AB, as well as  numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents Taras and Mary Romaniuk, her husband Steve Makowski, her daughter Carolyn Barrit, her sister Alice Sawchuk, her brother Edward Romaniuk, her brother Walter Romanick and sister-in-law Savene Romanick.

She was born October 8th, 1934 in Ethelbert, MB to Taras and Mary (Paley) Romaniuk.  She received her education in the District of Kulish School.  She left home in 1950 and moved to Dauphin where she worked and met Steve Makowski. They married in September of 1952 in Ethelbert, MB and they raised their three children in Dauphin. After her children were raised and she was left with an empty nest, her joy of cooking lead her to volunteer at the 11th Avenue Hall and, a short time later, was made Head Cook where everyone attending various weddings, Christmas parties, and other events enjoyed her passion for cooking.  She was an excellent cook and was always happy to share her recipes and wealth of knowledge with family and friends. Whomever visited her would never go home hungry and was most likely offered a care package to take home.  She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and was always ready and willing to lend a helping hand. She loved spending time outdoors whether camping, visiting with family and friends in the gazebo or tending to her big garden where nothing went to waste as she was generous to share with all.

Sally will be remembered for her love of cooking and hospitality, unselfishness, generosity of her time, patience, kind heart, and warm smile.
