Sylvia (Sally) Burla went to be with her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on Friday, May 30, 2025, at the Dauphin Hospital.
Sally was born in Ethelbert, MB on May 12, 1931 to Alexander and Anna Burtnyk. She was the fifth of seven children.
She will be lovingly remembered by her husband Bill Burla, her daughter Barb (Joe) Tuzyk and son Randy Burla, three grandsons Jesse Tuzyk, Joshua (Candace) Tuzyk and Josiah Tuzyk and Cherise Johnston along with two great grandchildren John and Natalie Tuzyk; four brothers Victor, Nestor, Gene and Wayne Burtnyk.
She was predeceased by her parents Alexander and Anna Burtnyk and sisters Alice Karpiak and Helen Kurtenbach.
Sally grew up in Ethelbert and after high school she attended St. Mary’s Academy and then Normal School in Winnipeg to get her teaching certificate. She married Bill Burla in 1951 and taught at Kerr School for two years. Then they moved to Ethelbert where she taught Grade 4 for 33 more years in Ethelbert Elementary School. After she retired from teaching school, she taught Discovery Time to the young students for two years in Dauphin and then for 13 years in Ethelbert. She was instrumental in bringing Discover Time to Ethelbert. She continued to study the word of God and prepared messages to teach in the Garland Gospel Church up until about a year ago as her health prevented her to continue. Her faith never wavered.
A Funeral Service was held for Sally on Friday, June 6, 2025 at 11:00 am from the Sneath-Strilchuk Family Care Centre in Dauphin, MB. Pastor Scott Allen officiated the service.
Interment followed in the Ethelbert Community Cemetery.
