Ruth Maria Allard

Ruth Maria Allard, 82, of Dauphin, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2020 at the Dauphin Regional Health Centre. Ruth was born in Radycza, Poland on January 1, 1938 to Gustav and Lydia Streu. In 1946 she moved with her family to west Germany and in 1951 the family immigrated to Dauphin, Manitoba where she resided until her death. In 1959 Ruth married Allan (Babe) Allard and together they raised their family of four children. She raised her family with strong morals and hard work. She taught her children by example to be humble and kind and to care for others. She showed them that when life knocks you down you get up and start over. And she joined them in celebrating the good things in life with her love and laughter. Her inner strength and spirituality guided her through the loss of her husband, Babe, in 1988. In 1994 Ruth married Nestor Leahul and began a new chapter in her life. She embraced Nestor’s family as her own and hosted many gatherings at their home and cottage. Together they welcomed many grandchildren and great grandchildren into their fold. Ruth worked for many years as the home care co-ordinator for the province of Manitoba. She was active in the Roman Catholic Church, a member of the Catholic Women’s League and a member and president (1971) of the Kinette Club of Dauphin. Never one to be idle she always had a large garden, loved to cook and bake, had a talent for handiwork, and kept active with golfing, curling, walking and playing bridge. She had a love of the lake and the outdoors and took every opportunity to socialize with family and friends. She will be remembered by her grandchildren as a worthy opponent in a game of cribbage and by the mittens she knit for all of them.

Ruth is survived by her children Shelley (Kyle), Brenda (Darcy), Ken (Leslie) and Mark (Sheri), grandchildren Lauren, Aaron, Andrew, Ryan, Nicole, Brendan, Kerri, Kyler, Jason, Brock and Craig and her two brothers, Hart (Heather) and Herman (Bonnie). She is lovingly remembered by all of the Leahul family. She was predeceased by her husband Allan (Babe), her husband Nestor Leahul, her sister Frieda, brothers Gerhart and Bruno.

A private family service was held on Friday, July 17, 2020 at St. Viator’s Roman Catholic Church at 11:00 am. Father Michel Nault officiating. Internment  at the Riverside Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations in Ruth’s memory to the Dauphin Community Foundation or the Manitoba Cancer society.
