Ruby Lettie Maniel made her journey to Heaven on May 24, 2021 at HSC in Winnipeg, MB in the arms of her daughter. Ruby was born in Bield, MB on October 19, 1939 to Edward and Lorraine (Mclure) Johnstone. She was born and raised on the family farm into a musical family and learned to play guitar at a young age. Many evenings were spent with friends and family playing music alongside her father and brothers and attending Saturday dances.
Ruby married Gordon Andrews in 1956 and together had one daughter, Brenda. Gordon passed away in a tragic accident in 1958. Ruby married George Maniel in 1959 and together raised 4 children, Brenda, Greg, Sandi and Cindy. She was hard working and had a hand in all the daily chores of the farm including cooking, fieldwork, animal care and tending to her home and growing vegetable and flower gardens. In 1993 Ruby and George retired, sold the family farm and moved to Roblin. Mom continued to take pride in her home and her vegetable and flower gardens and spending time with friends and family.
Ruby was an adoring and supportive mother, grandmother, great grandmother, friend and aunt. Although Mom endured many trials and tribulations in her life, her strength and sense of humour and her faith in God were epitomized by every heart she touched. I can still hear her words “time will tell.”
Her passing has left an irreplaceable void in all of our lives and her unwavering kindness and love for her family and friends will be forever remembered.
Ruby is predeceased by first husband, Gordon Andrews; parents, Lorraine and Edward; beloved husband, George; daughter, Sandi; Son, Gregory and granddaughter, Candace.
Surviving to mourn mom’s untimely passing and cherish so many memories are her daughters, Brenda Mackintosh (Pat) and Cindy Marzoff. Mom is also survived by grandchildren, Jodi, Jamie, Crystal (Luke), Nathan, Zach (Kassidy), Danielle, Carley, Cody and Clay; great grandchildren, Colton, Tristen, Trenton, Emma, Lily, Aliyah, Blaise, Phoenix, Luke, and Lynk; brothers, Blaine (Elaine), and Eldon, along with numerous nieces and nephews as well as many beloved sisters and brothers in-law.
Words cannot express our sincere appreciation and gratitude for special friends Iris and Munro Ross, Nurse Kelli Bergson at Roblin Medical Centre and Doctor Welch at HSC. Thank you so much to our family and friends for your support and kindness during this time and for your many expressions of love and sympathy.
A private graveside service was held on September 4, 2021 at the Roblin District Cemetery.
Should friends so desire, donations in memory of Ruby may be made to Canadian Cancer Society or to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
I Am Still Here
Just because you cannot see me
Does not mean that I am not there
Just because I am in heaven
Does not mean that I do not care
I often see you crying
You often call my name
I want to hold you tight
I want to ease your pain
It is easy for me
For I know heaven is real
If you knew the truth
How much better you would feel
One day we will meet again
But only when the time is right
When you step out of the darkness
I will be standing in the light
