Roxanne (Roxie) Podolsky was called home to glory on Thursday, May 22, 2025. She passed peacefully in her sleep and in her own home. Roxanne was born in the RM of Ethelbert on September 13, 1934, to Steven and Annie Syrnyk, the second youngest of seven children. Roxanne will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Joanne Gustafson, daughter Joyce (Glen) Campbell, son, Robert (Valentina) Podolsky, son Bruce (Oksana) Podolsky, 13 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Roxanne was predeceased by her husband, Edward Podolsky, her parents Steven and Annie Syrnyk and son-in-law, Jerry Gustafson. She is survived by one sister Iris Penonzek.
Roxanne married Edward Podolsky on November 29, 1952 and lived in Damery for nine years. Shortly after her marriage, her first job was teaching grades 1-8 in Damery School for one year. There was a shortage of teachers and with just her grade 11 education she was permitted to teach.
In July 1962, Edward and Roxie moved into their first home in Ethelbert. They ran a beekeeping operation their entire lives. She was an excellent beekeeper who trained men in the bee yards and worked every aspect of the honey farm.
In her younger years, Roxie was a 4-H sewing leader, an avid community curler, hosted and led Bible Studies and was involved in Women’s Aglow Ministries. In her senior years, she was active on the Pine River Evangelical church board for three years up until February 2025. She was also part of the Ethelbert Museum board and the Ethelbert Support Services to Seniors.
Roxie loved the outdoors and maintained a garden and beautiful flowerbeds all her life. Roxie’s life was built on the foundation of her faith in Christ Jesus. He was her Anchor through every season of life.
A Funeral Service was held for Roxie on Friday, May 30, 2025 at 11:00 am from the Sneath-Strilchuk Family Care Centre in Dauphin with Pastor Mark Johnston officiating.
Interment followed in the Ethelbert Roman Catholic Cemetery.
