Robert "Bob" Waldack Obituary

Surrounded by the love of some of his family, Robert (Bob) Waldack passed away on the first day spring- March 20, 2019 at the age of 90 years and 8 months.

Bob was born July 22, 1928 in the bush at the edge of the Riding Mountains to Alfred Waldack and Dorothy Curston; the third of nine children. He attended the 2066 Durston School until grade 8, when he began working.

Dad was not a stranger to hard work- he was a man of many talents and trades. He worked hard his whole life, and over the span of his 90 years held many jobs. The most memorable ones include the Taxi business he owned, and his career as a Corrections Officer. He also owned and operated a roofing business, and over the 15 years taught alot of young men in Dauphin a very valuable trade. Many of those men went on to become successful roofers themselves. Retirement didn’t slow Bob down either, he continued working and enjoyed the many hours he spent farming & working security at Stoney Point.

Dad volunteered his time as much as he could. Him and his wife Marion cooked meals for the Dauphin Beaver & Cub camps for about 25 years. Dad was a member of the 26th Field Regiment & a Drill Sergeant, and he proudly held a membership with the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #20 for 45 years. He was also a lifetime member of MGEU and stayed heavily involved. Up until last year, he regularly attended their bi-annual conventions.

In his later years, Dad still kept busy. Saturdays were always spent at auctions sales with his dog, first Radar, then Chopper. He would go even if he didn’t need anything, and would always come home with a box or two of treasures. They can now retire his number 14.

But of all the things Bob was, the most important titles he held were Dad, Grandpa, and Big Poppa.

He became a father for the first time in 1956, when his first wife, Buela McLean gave birth to their daughter Katherine. He later married Betty & had 4 children, and 2 step children. Wendy, Laurie, Leslie, Kevin, Tim & Cindy. On March 23, 1973 he married Marion Gebhart and lovingly received 5 more step children- Jack, Jim, Don, Dale, Wendy.

Over the years, he was blessed with 23 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. They all held a very special place in his heart.

Bob was predeceased by his parents Albert & Dorothy, his wives Buela McLean, Marion Gebhart; his brothers Bill and Norman, sisters Genevieve and Gladys, his daughter Katherine,  and his sons Jim & Kevin.

Bob is survived by his children Leslie Brown of Napanee, ON, Tim Waldack of Edmonton, AB, Cindy Moore of Nova Scotia, Jack Bremner (Lorie) of Dauphin, Wendy Wellborn (Harold) of Sifton, Don Bremner (Jelyn) of Sherwood Park, AB, Dale Bremner of Winnipeg, Wendy McKenzie of Winnipeg, Laurie McKenzie (Abbie) of Winnipeg, foster son Kelly Albert (Norma) of Calgary, AB; 23 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
