In Loving Memory of Robert (German) Genaille
Born in Duck Bay, Manitoba
March 8, 1946 – August 3, 2025
Peacefully, on August 3, 2025, with family by his side, Robert “German” Genaille went to meet his Lord and Saviour. A loving husband, father, papa, great-papa, brother, uncle, and friend, he will be deeply missed by all who had the honour of knowing him.
German was a quiet, gentle soul who never complained while bravely battling health complications due to diabetes. Born and raised in Duck Bay, Manitoba, Robert lived a life grounded in hard work, tradition, and deep love for the land and his family. He was a dedicated provider who spent his days trapping, logging, fishing, hunting, and working as a community night watchman—work
that reflected his strength, resilience, and connection to nature. In his younger years, Robert met the love of his life, Pauline (Chickwam), and the two were married on October 20, 1973. Their marriage was a beautiful partnership rooted in love, mutual respect, and a shared commitment to family. Together, they built a loving home filled with laughter, stories, and the joyful chaos of children, grandchildren, and greatgrandchildren.
German will be remembered as a hard-working man who always provided for his family. He was known for his crazy sense of humour and his ability to make people laugh. His favourite pastimes were singing, playing guitar, going to bingo, and dancing, especially teaching people how to square dance. He spent his summers with his wife Chickwam and their kids in Blueberry Patch. One of his favourite pastimes was playing 4-10s with Chickwam, Sharon, and Henry.
Robert was predeceased by his loving wife Pauline; his parents, Abel and Maryann; his siblings, Theresa, Joe, Elizabeth, Gordon “Shorty,” Rose, Walter, George, and Violet; his mother-in-law Martha and father-in-law Joe; his daughter Norma Richards; sisters-in-law Nellie and Nancy; brothers-in-law Willie, Nelson, Elbert, and Daniel; nephew Robert; nieces Madison and Sadies; and his special little angel, Danelle Alyssa Ariel Spence-Chartrand.
Robert is survived by and leaves to mourn his devoted children: Richard (Belle), Kevin (Sharlene), Lisa (Neil), Robin “Sugar-Pie,” and Robert Jr. He is also survived by his brothers-in- law David (Glorian), Walter (Lyn), and sisters-in-law Frances (Charles) and Rita (Allen).
German’s greatest gift to the family was the time and love he spent with his beloved grandchildren: Tristan (Brandi), Aspen, Kevin Jr., Darian (Kenzie), Dominic (Emma), Rich, Ryan, Angela, Dustin, Taylor, Emma, Shayla, Ninah, and Cody; and his great-grandchildren: Niko, Levi, Charity, Aspen, Isabella, Theodore, Kaleb, Landon, Aliyah, Emily, Blake, and
Bella. German held a special place in his heart for his foster sons: Ryan Guiboche, Randy Sutherland, and Chris Nepinak, and for all the children he and Chickwam welcomed into their home, providing love and kindness throughout the years. He cherished all his nieces and nephews who spent summers and holidays with the family in Duck Bay. He especially looked forward to visits from Marissa and Daniel, and seeing Julie, Wendi, and Thomas during summer breaks. The family would like to extend their appreciation to family friend Jennifer Perrault and all her colleagues at St. Boniface Hospital for the kind and wonderful care they provided to German and the family. A very special thanks to family member Sharlene Genaille for the loving care and support she gave to German over the last several years.
