It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Richard Charles Hamilton of Ochre River, Manitoba, at the age of 83 years.
Richard was born on May 11, 1941, to Charlie and Edna Hamilton (Chalmers). He would be a brother for Shirley, who was almost 6 at the time.
Richard spent all his life within a few miles of the village of Ochre River. He attended school there from grades 1 to 11, and then to Dauphin for grade 12. He recalled riding horses or bicycles to school in Ochre.
Upon graduating grade 12, Richard went to the University of Manitoba and obtained a two-year Diploma of Agriculture. The summer of his graduation from U of M, he went to Europe, travelling with a friend from France whom he had met in the diploma course.
Upon returning from his travels, he began farming alongside his father. Farming was in his blood at an early age, as he had been working on the farm since he was a small boy. The Hamilton farm was mixed, producing both grain and cattle.
On October 15, 1965, he married Linda Chase from Stenen, Saskatchewan. They had a house built in the same yard as Richard 's parents. They had two children. Lisa Lynn in 1967 and David Charles in 1970 (Richard always referred to them as his Centennial projects). David continues to farm the same land as his father and grandfather did. A few days before his passing, he and Linda had reached the milestone of 59 years married.
Richard was interested and involved in a variety of activities over the course of his life. He served on several boards over the years: Dauphin Ochre School Board, Ochre River United Church, Keystone Agricultural Producers, among others. He also sold Manitoba Crop Insurance as well as Vermeer balers. One of his biggest ventures was the creation of Richlin Feeders, a custom feedlot, (Rich from Richard and Lin from Linda).
Music was a big part of Richard's life. He enjoyed many musical pursuits and sang with church choirs, barbershop groups and quartets, as well as often being asked to sing for weddings and funerals.
Richard and Linda enjoyed travelling and spent several winters in Weslaco, Texas. They were a social couple, and often made plans with friends and family. He liked both a good game of cards and a good talk. Lively conversation was something he greatly enjoyed.
He is survived by his wife Linda, daughter Lisa Brichon and husband Cam, son David Hamilton and wife Cindy, grandchildren Taylor Fourie and husband Christo, Travis Eisner and wife Jocelyn, Derrick Burnside and wife Melissa, Jared Rempel and wife Jane, Joshua Rempel and wife Angie, Jenna Rempel, Jillian Canart and husband Brian, as well as seven great grandchildren.
If so desired, donations in Richard's memory may be made to a charity of one's choice.
A Funeral Service will be held for Richard on Saturday, October 26, 2024 at 2:00 pm from the Sneath-Strilchuk Family Care Centre in Dauphin with Rev. Larry McPhail officiating.
Private Interment will follow.
This service will be live streamed for those who cannot attend.
