It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Peter Hutsal on Monday, September 7, 2020 at the age of 96 years.
Peter was born in Horod, MB on May 21, 1924 to Sam and Malania (Nee Derenewski) Hutsal. He grew up on a family farm and received his education at the Horod School. He farmed with his parents and was a mink rancher from 1943 to 1948.
On June 12, 1948 he married Lena Bilyk in Sandy Lake, MB. That fall, they purchased a mixed farm northwest of Dauphin, where he farmed. In his spare time he repaired machinery and vehicles.
In 1955, due to hard times he went to work at Camp Shilo as a carpenter’s helper. Upon, his return he continued to farm. They were blessed with three children, Ernest, Ronald and Betty Ann.
In 1989, they moved to Dauphin and lived there for several years. In May of this year, he moved to St. Paul’s Home where he resided until his passing.
He was a faithful member of the Ukrainian Catholic Church in Valley River. He enjoyed going for his daily coffee, his garden, recording movies and the company of family and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, daughter, Betty Ann (2019); brother, John; sisters, Catherine, Mary and Annie.
He leaves to mourn, his loving wife, Lena; sons, Ernie (Mary) and Ron (Florence); seven grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. Also surviving is one sister, Margaret Bomak of Dauphin, MB and many nieces and nephews.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a private family funeral service was held on Friday, September 11, 2020 at 10:30 at the Sneath Strilchuik Family Care Centre in Dauphin with the Very Rev Father Oleg Bodnarski officiating. Interment followed in the Riverside Cemetery in Dauphin, MB.
Pallbearers were, Dwayne Hutsal, Trent Hutsal, Nathan Hutsal, Harvey Bomak, Terry Wozney and Ivan Soloway.
Sneath Strilchuk Dauphin Chapel entrusted with arrangements. If friends or family so desire In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ukrainian Catholic Church in Valley River or to the Manitoba Lung Association.
