Peter Doan Obituary

Peter Brian  Doan

Peter Brian Doan of Riding Mountain, MB passed away on Sunday, March 31, 2024 at the Neepawa Hospital after a 4 year battle with cancer.

Peter was born on November 28th, 1960 in McCreary, MB to parents Archie and Dora Doan (nee Dennis) and was raised with his five brothers Nelson, Derek, David, Mark and Timothy.

Pete completed his Grade 12 in Kelwood, MB.  Following graduation, he took Carpentry at ACC in Brandon along with his telecom training.  Peter married Kim Hyatt in 1993 and their daughter Amanda was born in 1994.  Pete then met Deb Novak in 2011 and they were together until his passing.

Pete lived in many places including Winnipeg, Brandon, Clanwilliam, Ditch Lake and Riding Mountain.  He enjoyed many hobbies; windsurfing, water skiing, paddle boarding, scuba diving, hunting, fishing and camping.  Peter spent many hours woodworking, building bows and arrows and listening to music.  Peter loved e-biking and riding his motorcycle.  He was a born again Christian.

He worked in Arizona trimming palm trees and work in Winnipeg at Armadillo Underground.  After completing his telecom training, Peter worked for MTS which later became BellMTS.  He was employed there for 33 years as a line/cable technician from 1986-2019.  He spent time in California, Washington and Oregon working for MTS.

Peter successfully hunted caribou in Northern Manitoba with a friend.  Unfortunately, they had to spend the night outdoors as it got too dark and they couldn't find their way back to camp.  They both got beautiful bulls though!

As a little kid, Peter lived with his family at McKinnon Creek Warden Station. He would venture off into the hills to fish in the creeks.  He would stay out well after dark and his dad would have to send out his brother Dave to get him.  Dave wasn't too impressed as he had to dodge fresh bear droppings there and back.

Pete has a dry sense of humor that had a way of catching you off guard.  Even in his last weeks in the hospital, he had everyone laughing until their stomach hurt.  Pete would often start laughing thinking about Dave's "pasteurized honey".

Everyone who knew Pete knew that you would not mix alcohol with politics.  If you did, you knew he would be on the subject for hours, even days!

Pete loved the outdoors so he and Debbie decided to buy a lot at the lake (Christianson Beach).  He spent many hours working on it.  Pete loved spending time at the firepit with friends and family and fishing until dark.  Pete really enjoyed watching family fall off the paddleboard!

In July 2023, Pete became a grandfather with the birth of his first grandchild.  His eyes would light up whenever Parker visited.  One of the last pictures taken of him was with his buddy Parker on the hospital bed.  He loved showing that picture to everyone who came to visit.

After a 4 year battle with cancer, Pete was still the most positive and brave person that never stopped living his life to the fullest.  Rest in peace, Pete.

Pete was predeceased by his parents and his niece Carmel.

He leaves to mourn his passing and cherish many fond memories; his spouse Debbie, his daughter Amanda of Winnipeg, his stepchildren Lindsay (Matthew) and Brady (Stephanie) and grandson Parker of McCreary, his siblings Nelson (Pat) of Winnipeg, Derek (Diane) of Carman, David of Riding Mountain, Mark of Phoenix, Arizona, Timothy  (Rhonda) of Ditch Lake and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.
