Peter Didychuk Obituary

Peter Michael Didychuk of Toutes Aides, MB, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 26, 2025, at the age of 76 years after an epic evening card game full of laughter, fun, and the winning hand.

Pete was born Aug 1, 1948, in the RM of Lawrence to Michael Didychuk and Kate (Tkach) Didychuk. He grew up with four sisters, Mary, Jean, Victoria, and Elaine. He was never married but was a loving Uncle for numerous kids who loved him immensely with his loud voice and amazing laugh.

He started diamond drilling at the age of 18. Then worked at the Sherritt Gordon Mine in Lynn Lake for about 10 years, and then took a mechanical degree in The Pas. He then returned to the farm and worked with his dad farming and took care of his parents. After his father passed away, he rented the land out and returned to diamond drilling at Majors Midwest for 20 years, where he worked until retirement. However, after several years of retirement, he returned to work caring for Manipogo Park and keeping everything in tip-top shape until a few years ago.

Peter also helped the 4H Club for a few years, teaching carpentry, and looked after his beloved St. Mary’s Church and Cemetery while also being the Priest’s helper for masses up until his death.

Pete was always known for his smile and amazing laughter. His home was always a place for everyone to meet and feel at home. He cooked, poured drinks, and fussed over serving everyone. He made all the little kids giggle with laughter along with him, he made relatives even from far away feel happily at home, he welcomed all guests like family, his door was always unlocked and open for everyone. To many, even those unrelated, he was always ‘Uncle Pete’. He always kept a huge garden to help feed his many guests and always had Ukrainian Christmases, wiener roasts, birthday parties, corn roasts with lots of laughter and dybosia. He also enjoyed playing cards throughout all those years and lending his hearty laugh to the excitement. If you played cards with Pete, then you’ve definitely had fun, and so it was fitting that he passed away peacefully after an amazing evening of playing cards with his very closest and dearest loving friends. He will be missed and remembered by many for the laughter he brought to their lives.

Peter is survived by his sisters:Mary Trush and husband Bill of St. Catherines, ON, Vicky Pascal and husband Melvin of Dauphin, MB as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins from all over who will remember him fondly.
He was predeceased by: his father Michael Didychuk in 1980, his mother Kate (Tkach) Didychuk in 2008, his sister Jean Hogarth in 2016, his sister Elaine Didychuk in 2019, his niece Tracy Trush and his brother-in-law Scott Hogarth

Afterglow

by Helen Lowrie Marshall

I’d like the memory of me
to be a happy one.
I’d like to leave an afterglow
of smiles when life is done.

I’d like to leave an echo
whispering softly down the ways,
Of happy times and laughing times
and bright and sunny days.

I’d like the tears of those who grieve,
to dry before the sun,
Of happy memories that I leave
when life is done.
