It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our Beloved Brother and Uncle, Cousin, Friend, Neighbor, and Caregiver PATRICK (Pat) GENIK on January 30, 2021 at the age of 59 years old.
Pat was born in Dauphin, Manitoba on June 2, 1961 to Phyllis and John Genik. He took his schooling in Dauphin and other than a short time away in Whitehorse, Yukon and Vancouver, British Columbia, Pat made Dauphin his forever home. For Pat a home was tied directly to the people that he saw everyday, and a deep interest in their lives and who they were. There was never a time for Pat when stopping and chatting and connecting was not a priority, treating each person and conversation as though there was nothing more important to him than them and their story.
Pat was completely committed to our family and the love and care we shared. He was an amazing and dedicated son and caregiver of our parents, who were very sadly missed by him and all of us. Pat had an immense and unrelenting love for this niece Ashley who was the light of his life. We talked daily and he always asked for his BEAN, and shared interest in all of her life moments. Pat was a loving brother and my dear friend. There is a space in each day that will be filled by grateful memories and moments from our past, and now from his place in Heaven as he watches over us all. Pat, we love you so much ALWAYS!!
Pat was very passionate about fishing and hunting and the outdoors. He loved spending time outdoors with others and trying to catch the big one at the lake. Pat loved hunting and he created the perfect lodge at home with the help and friendship of Patrick and his neighbor partners who helped him make it his own.
Pat was known for his hard work ethic and deep desire to serve others. Pat very quickly found his way to a helping profession, as part of a family legacy of service and love that began with our grandfather and mother and continue with his most loved niece Ashley. Pat first worked with adults with special needs and he continued this work over the past decade with his very much loved and special friend Jordy. He spent more than twenty years working with Home Care in Dauphin and the surrounding area. On countless occasions recently and throughout the years people have celebrated his love and care for others in need, and the extra efforts he made above and beyond to add to their quality of life. Pat was caring and compassionate, and he truly felt the challenges of others deep in his heart. That is where his tender heart reached out, his wonderful sense of humor was shared, and a smile and acts of service transformed a name on a schedule or a moment on the street into a blessed moment of connection. He lived for the stories he shared and wrote with people both at work and in everyday life in Dauphin.
Part of his immense love language was cooking special meals for people, both at work and home. He took great pride in making something special to brighten their day. Pat was always quick to want to share his possessions and provide for others where the need was. Pat himself lived a very simple life happily and in abundance. He didn't need fancy or new, instead it was about finding simple treasures like his little truck and focusing on the people an beloved animals around him. Pat spent his life loving animals and appreciating the unconditional comfort and love they provided (cats especially and his hairless "cousin" in Calgary Ollie).
Right now, Pat would want me to communicate to all of you that knew and loved him that he appreciated his time with you truly. That each small moment of relationship put such light into his life. He is at peace and no longer in physical and emotional pain. Pat is with all of those he loved before, who were at heaven's gate waiting to greet him. Pat knew God and God's Endless Love. Pat Loved music and it brought him so much joy and meaning. Please listen to the song "When I Get Where I am Going" by Geoff Moore, as it feels like the words are from Pat's heart to all of ours.
This past year of unprecedented changes and challenges in the world have affected us all immeasurably. All of the important comforts like coffee time at Tim Horton's, purpose filled work and connection, concerts and many visits with family planned in person, and time out at the lake and in Edmonton with treasured extended family have had to be suspended and experienced at a distance. Blessings to all of you as you grieve what has been lost and find ways to live and love anew. Due to restrictions, we have decided to have a Celebration of Life in the summertime when we can gather together and celebrate and share memories of Pat with one another outdoors. I will put further announcements in the papers and reach out with more details of that gathering plan.
In the meantime, I ask that you share your special stories of Pat with our family on the Sneath-Strilchuk website or by mail to Lisa Szutiak 26 Kraim Avenue Dauphin, Manitoba R7N 0A4 which will be forwarded to us in Calgary. I want to gather them and have them ready to share in the summertime. Your love and care have meant so much to us during this very sad time, and we will look forward to Celebrating the Life of Pat together.
Should friends so desire, donations in memory of Pat may be made to Parkland Humane Society .
