Patricia (Sahulka) Brown

 Surrounded by her loving family, our cherished and beloved wife, mother, Amma, daughter, sister and friend passed away on May 2, 2019 at the age of 66 years.

Pat’s story begins in 1952, the fourth eldest child to Peter and Minnie (Rosteski) Sahulka.  Pat was born in Winnipegosis and spent her childhood on the family farm in South Bay district alongside her 13 siblings.  Pat loved being part of such a large and loving family and valued life on the farm.  It was here that she learned many life long lessons and mastered how to be a jack of all trades.  This farm girl could multi-task like no other and could handle any job inside or outside the house.  From driving a tractor, to cooking, to cleaning the house endlessly, to planting the garden, to chopping wood, to hauling water, to stacking square bales, to ironing clothes, to caring for her younger siblings.  It was with this upbringing that she valued patience, kindness, hard work and family. 

Pat attended South Bay School, a one room county school until Grade 7 and then travelled to Winnipegosis for her final school years.  It was during those years at Winnipegosis Collegiate where she met her high school sweetheart, the love of her life and her life-long companion, Dan Brown.  After high school, they moved to Winnipeg to further their studies.  Pat pursued a career in hairdressing and then returned to Winnipegosis to set up her salon business. Even at a young age, Pat spent hours primping and perfecting her hair.  We believe her chosen profession had always been her calling.

The high school sweethearts were married on June 7, 1975 in Winnipegosis and planted down roots in their hometown.  After building their family home, Pat’s Beauty Salon moved into the basement and for the next 40 years her salon would be a hub for great hair styling and lifelong friendship.   Pat forever cherished those times.

Pat & Dan raised three loving daughters, Sherisse, Kristin and Linnzi.  As the girls grew, family camping trips, trips to the Brandon Winter Fair, Mom & daughter trips to Stars on Ice, trips to the farm, curling bonspiels with the Mom & daughter dream team and many countless shopping adventures became a tradition.  Many memories were made & shared.

The family continued to expand with the addition of their three son-in-laws, Jayson, Korie and Frank. There were many late nights filled with laughter & endless conversation. Many memories of card games, curling bonspiels, golf games, camping trips and a family trip to Hawaii will be always treasured.

The arrival of her eight grandchildren over the past ten years was Pat’s greatest joy.  It was her life’s purpose and calling to be a wonderful loving Amma and to provide love, joy and comfort to all her grandchildren.  From the time they arrived into this world, she would cuddle them, share stories at bedtime, give them back rubs, bake for them and with them, build castles in the sand, play hockey and soccer for hours,  cut and style their hair, have tea parties, play dolls and show them endless love. She was a very special Amma.

Pat’s true essence was one of class, beauty and grace.  She was known for her selflessness and giving personality.  She dedicated her life to helping and caring for her family and her kind spirit and gentle nature touched many lives around her.  Her legacy of loving unconditionally and valuing the importance of family will be a true gift to generations to come.

She will be lovingly remembered and cherished by her husband of 44 years, Dan,  her three daughters, Sherisse (Jayson) Abraham, Kristin (Korie) Emerson, Linnzi (Frank) Carlson, along with her eight grandchildren, Mark, Lane & Ella Abraham,  Tristan, Mya & Blake Emerson,  Paityn & Trey Carlson, her mother, Minnie Sahulka, siblings, Bill (Carolyn) Rosteski, Lawrence (Aileen) Rosteski, Theresa (Len) Wood, Sonia Monych, Brenda Sahulka, Joyce (Barry) Meyer, Ted (Alice) Sahulka, Cindy (Bob) Bileski, Elaine (Don) McFadzen, Loree (Al) Bibe, Richard (Lisa) Sahulka, Lavern (Sharon) Sahulka, Reynold (Marie) Sahulka and many numerous nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.

Pat was predeceased by her father, Peter Sahulka, her in-laws, Mark & Freda Brown, her infant nephew, Kenneth Rosteski, her infant niece, Allyson Sahulka and great nephew, Rylinn Mekish.   

Pat’s family will be forever grateful to all the wonderful staff that provided such great care to our wife, Mom & Amma during her courageous battle.  Thank you for your kindness and compassion to the staff at the Winnipegosis & District Health Centre & Home Care Team, Dauphin Cancer Care Unit, Prairie Mountain Health Cancer Nurse Navigator and Palliative Care Clinical Resource Nurse and Concordia Hospital Cancer Care Unit.  We would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the many friends and family who provided support to all of us along this journey.

Amma

An Amma is someone who would literally do anything for her children and grandchildren. 

She is someone who cannot ever be replaced, no matter what. 

She is someone that never gives up and fights until she wins, and she always wins.

She is the strongest person that you will ever meet and if you are sick and afraid,

being with her makes all your fears disappear. She is someone that God took extra time on

and made to be the most amazing person on this earth. 

But most of all  she is someone that no matter what  will love you unconditionally forever. 

She is a superhero. Our superhero.

A Celebration of Life was held for Pat on Friday, May 17, 2019 at 2:00 pm from the Sneath-Strilchuk Family Care Centre in Dauphin with Rev. Pat Langlois officiating.   Those attending are welcome to wear a splash of yellow, her favorite colour as a tribute to Pat and her beautiful soul.

A Private Interment followed in the Winnipegosis & District Cemetery at a later date.
