M.J. Patricia Edgerton (nee Chartier) passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on November 17, 2025.
Pat was born October 22, 1948 in Russell to Julia and Leopold Chartier. She grew up with her 6 siblings on a farm near Reeder, Manitoba a few miles outside of Miniota. She started school at Wynona, a one room schoolhouse, then moved to St. Lazare to attend middle school at the convent, before finally moving to Brandon at age 16 to attend high school, living with her aunt and uncle Marion and Lucien Peloquin. After leaving school she worked at the Brandon Mental Health Centre for several years.
It was in Brandon that she met her husband Denny, they were married in April of 1970. Over the next few years Pat worked various part-time clerical/administrative jobs while raising 4 children. When her youngest started preschool, she started her career in childcare. In her early 40s she went back to school to earn an Early Childhood Educator diploma. She worked at Riverview Preschool, eventually becoming co-director. Then she moved to 3-4-5 preschool and worked there until she retired and moved to Lake of the Prairies with Denny in 2007 and eventually to Russell in 2016.
She enjoyed crafting and painting and for several years ran a small crafting business (Country Edge) with her husband Denny, building and selling wooden crafts at craft sales across the province. Not one to sit still, she worked part-time at IGA before moving over to work with family at Russell Flowers.
Pat was as salt of the earth as they come. She was a loving and caring mother, grandmother and wife and a generous and loyal friend and sibling, she could always be relied upon for honest, level-headed advice and support. She developed her artistic side in retirement, took painting lessons in Winnipeg and became an accomplished painter in the folk art style. She was an avid gardener who also proved to be a natural at floral arrangements when she worked at the flower shop in her later years.
She was predeceased by her husband Denny (2018), father Leopold Chartier (1956), mother Julia Chartier (2022), and brothers Henry Chartier (2018), and Dennis Chartier (2023).
She will be lovingly remembered by her son Jason and his children Tate and Jordan; her son Jared (Terri-Ann) and their children Jack and Andrew; her daughters Renee and Tricia; and her sisters Bernadette, Madeleine (Terry), Aline (Charles), and brother Ronnie (Cindy).
A mass and celebration of life was held for Pat at St Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church in Russell on Monday, December 1st, 2025 at 1:00 pm.
