Ollie Bond Obituary

Ollie Phyllis Bond of Dauphin, Manitoba passed away on Friday, May 29, 2020 at the age of 87 years.

Ollie was born on May 8, 1933 in Ashville, MB, R.M of Gilbert Plains to Fred and Carolina (Kostyshyn) Beyko. She was the youngest of eight children, six sisters and one brother.  Ollie attended Mineral Creek School for grades 1-8, then Dauphin Collegiate & Technical Institute D.C.T.I. for grade 9 after which she attended Little's Business College in Dauphin.  She then worked in the administrative / office positions at Ackland's & Son Ltd, Hatch Motors, Buckwold's Fuel Dealers, Rodgers Wholesale, all in Dauphin.  Then she moved to Vancouver B.C. for a short time and worked at the Vancouver Salt Co. and then to Winnipeg where she worked in the invoicing department at the Salisbury House.  Lastly she worked for Sneath-Strilchuk Funeral Service, retiring after 50 years of working.
Ollie was a member of St. George's Ukrainian Orthodox Church and sang in the church choir and Canada's National Ukrainian Festival Choir.  Ollie was a fun loving person who loved to laugh and have a good time.  She enjoyed music of all kinds with singing and dancing being favourites, many times you would hear her laughter on the dance floor.  While in the care home she particularly enjoyed the activities where she would sing along or else tap her hands to the beat of the music.  Music seemed to have a calming effect on her.
Ollie participated in competitive curling, golf and bowling in which she acquired many trophies throughout the years.
Ollie was predeceased by her parents, Fred & Caroline Beyko; brothers Nicholas (in infancy), Steve (Sheila); sisters Nellie (Nick) Todoruk, Anne (Peter) Mymko, Minnie (Peter) Smith, Pauline (Fred) Yurkiw, Elizabeth (Metro) Todoruk; and brother-in-law John Gottselig.  She will be greatly missed by her sister Jennie Gottselig of Regina and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.  Due to her declining health, Ollie spent the last four years in the Dauphin Personal Care Home where she passed away peacefully on Friday, May 29, 2020.
