Olga Menzul
(nee Nykolaishyn, formally Klemecki)
Our Mother, our safe place to land, passed away Monday, September 1, 2025, Labour Day, at Crocus Court Personal Care Home in Roblin, MB at the tender age of 92 years. She was born to Michael and Effy (Kozak) Nykolaishyn on September 17, 1932, on the family farm in Zelena, MB. Mom was the fifth out of eight children and grew to be the fun-loving comedian of the bunch, always wanting everyone to be happy.
She attended Northcliff School and completed her grade 6 education. At 17, she made the move to Roblin where she went from country life to small town life. Here she found employment at Truffin’s where she met our dad, Joe Klemecki who was working as a salesman at McLeod’s.
They were wed on her birthday, September 17, 1950, and three children soon followed: Diane in 1951, Dennis in 1954, and Cecile in 1962. As family life was just beginning, Joe suddenly passed away at the age of 43 on April 29, 1969.
Leaving a big hole in Mom’s heart and young children to provide for, she mustered on with the positive attitude she carried through life. She then went to work at the McLeod’s lunch counter. Together with Bella Pronyk, they had that little lunch counter thriving; the tastiness of their hamburgers, pies, and tarts are still remembered today.
In 1974, Mom accepted a marriage proposal from our future stepfather, Frank Menzul. Thus, bringing the Menzul family into ours. Together Mom and Frank built a new house, travelled the world, and always opened their house with a home cooked meal, kindness and generosity to family, friends, and neighbours daily. They shared 46 good years together before Frank passed away at the age of 93 on January 7, 2020.
In the winter of 2022, upon doctor’s recommendations, Mom moved to the Gilbert Plains Personal Care Home. After a brief stay there she was able to move to Crocus Court Personal Care Home in Roblin. Mom never lost her cheerfulness, playfulness, or sense of humor. With two sisters also residing at the care home, as well as many old friends, and new acquaintances, she adapted quickly and soon learned a new way of life.
Mom was always the life of the party, making everyone laugh and smile on her daily routes up and down the corridors. Our Mother met life with grace and dignity. We will surely miss her presence and are thankful for all the memories she gave us.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Diane (Lorne) Dixon, Dennis (Wilma) Klemecki, and Cecile Klemecki; grandchildren, Kimberly (Bryan) Wescott, Nadine (Trent) Ooms, Shane (Loni) Klemecki, Jarret Bouvier, and Brett (Natalie) Bouvier; great-grandchildren, Ethan, Lucas, and Rachel Wescott, Mackenzie and Kale Ooms, Tehya and Carter Klemecki, Lily, Bo, and Ovi Bouvier, and Jordan (Matt) Suiker; great-great grandsons, Levi Ooms, and Jackson Suiker; sisters, Nellie Nicholson of Roblin, MB, Margaret (Norman) Sandluk of Halton Hills, ON, and Wilna Styba of Roblin, MB; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and all the relatives in Ukraine.
Mom was predeceased by her parents, Michael and Effy Nykolaishyn; our dad, Joe Klemecki and his parents, John and Francis Klemecki; our stepfather, Frank Menzul and his parents, Tom and Mary Menzul; siblings, Russel (Mary) Nykolaishyn, Rosie (Walter) Hawrychuk, Annie (Lloyd) Mus, and Billy (Margie) Nykolaishyn; brother’s and sister-in-law’s, Mervin Styba, Mike Darry, Emily (Alex) Sipos, Stanley Klemecki, Don (Stella) Menzul, Mike (Mary) Menzul, and Steffie (Frank) Luzny.
Our family would like to express our sincere gratitude to the Doctors and to all the staff at Crocus Court for the excellent care Mom received and for your kind support during our difficult time. Thank you to Sneath Strilchuk – Roblin Chapel, Joe, and Jewel for your guidance.
