It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Olga at the age of 90. Olga had been residing at the Dauphin Personal Care Home where she lost her battle with cancer on Monday, July 19th, 2021.
Olga was born on April 25, 1931 in the Vimy Ridge district of Pine River, to Michael and Paraska Yolowica. She attended school in Pine River and after graduating from high school Olga attended college in Winnipeg, to earn her diploma as a Permit Teacher. She taught at several schools in the area and had several others careers in her lifetime, including restaurant owner, grocery store owner and farmer, as well as mother her daughter Linda. It was during this time as a teacher that she met Alex Kopachynski and they were married in 1950. Together they built a life surrounded by family and friends making many memories along the way.'
Olga later moved to Dauphin after the sudden passing of her husband. There she enjoyed becoming a Baba. She was very active in her grandson's life and soon all the kids in the neighborhood knew her as Baba. One baseball season, during a game, the coach became very excited when a car drove onto the field. The other players ensured the coach that it was only Baba, and the game went on.
After several years in Dauphin Olga met a very special friend, Bill Palaniuk and they spent many years together. They lived in Lorray Manor for several years and only failing health made it necessary for Olga to move to the Dauphin Personal Care Home, where she spent her remaining years.
Olga was an avid church goer and had a remarkable voice. She loved to socialize and would attend every function at the care home. She also loved getting her hair done and was first in line when the hairdresser arrived with fresh lipstick on, and a smile on her face.
Olga is survived by her daughter Linda (Lorne) and her grandson Ashley (Madeline). Olga was predeceased by her parents an six brothers; her husband Alex in 1980 and her friend Bill in 2016.
