It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of my beloved mother, Olga Jopka, at the age of 98 on July 19, 2021, dying her way at her home as she vowed never to die in an “old folks’ home.”

Mom was predeceased by husband Steve, daughter Joyce, and sons, John and Wally, her parents, sisters and brothers.  Mom is survived by her daughter Marlene, Marlene’s son, Todd, daughter-in-law Verla, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She will be remembered for her amazing kindness, her interest in others as she was our biggest supporter.  She will be greatly missed by all that had the privilege of knowing her, but at the same time, we were incredibly blessed to have had many happy healthy years with her.

Mom was born with a sense of total caring for all animals that came on her property, including stray cats, rabbits and birds.  Her first task every morning was to feed all of them, and a few weeks before she passed, she assisted a stray mother cat have four kittens which was a joy to her.

Mom was proud to be a member of the Grandview St. Elias Catholic Women’s league for 50 years.

No one ever left hungry when Mom held family dinners as Mom was an excellent cook.

Mom appreciated the dedication and professionalism of her nurse practitioner, Heather Hollinda.  Also special thanks to Mom’s “lawn man”, Wayne Manweiler, who helped Mom tremendously.
