Nina Porozova

Nina Porozova, age 88 years, wife of Veniamin(s) Porozav(s) of Dauphin, Manitoba, former resident of Riga, Latvia & Belarus,  passed away on Monday, February 24, 2020 at the Dauphin Hospital.

Nina is survived by her husband Veniamin; daughter Galina Bartel; niece Nina Buben & family (Belarus); niece Elena Stecenko ( Kiev, Ukraine); nephew Vacheslav Siniavski (Belarus), nephews Walter & Theodor Anop (Montreal, Quebec).

Nina was born in a village in Belarus before the second world war and spent a big part of her childhood under Nazi occupation.

Nina worked in an electronic factory in Latvia. She was a very kind, generous and forgiving woman, very family oriented, helping family, friends and neighbors with whatever they needed, always offering presents of clothing, food or flowers, she never let anyone leave empty handed. Church was a very important part of her life.  Nina enjoyed knitting and was a perfectionist, people found it hard to tell if her garments were hand made or store bought.  She was very good at figuring out patterns and sizing, she was very patient. Galina always remembers her being very encouraging while teaching others to do their very best.  Nina had a green thumb and grew beautiful african violets and geraniums on her windowsills. She loved to sing and laugh and could be very mischievous. In 2013 Nina suffered a stroke which left her unable to speak, but she was always able to express her feelings with visual emotions by smiling, hugging and laughing. Nina and Veniamin immigrated to Canada to live with Galina in 2015 after working for ten years on the immigration process. 

Funeral Service was held on Friday, February 28, 2020 at 2:00 pm from Sneath-Strilchuk Family Care Centre in Dauphin, MB with Rev. Father Brent Kuzyk officiating.  Interment followed in Riverside Cemetery in Dauphin, MB.
