Nicholas John Chetyrbuk, June 12, 1931 September 14, 2025
Nick was predeceased by his wife, Laverne; parents, William and Julia and by his brothers Frank, Peter, and his sister, Helen (Lozinski)
He is survived by his children: Shelley (Ian), Sharon (D’Arcy), Darlene (Craig) , Darell, David and by 9 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by his beloved cats, Sam and Sue.
Dad was born in Gilbert Plains and later moved to a farm east of Dauphin.
In 1953 Nick began working with the Highways Department with which he had a career lasting over 40 years. In 1970 the family moved from Dauphin to Grandview, where he spent his last 23 years with the “Good Roads” as the foreman of the Grandview Highways yard. He would frequently get up at 5:00 am to drive his beat to check road conditions, especially in the wintertime. Dad purchased a Massey Ferguson to maintain the large garden he and Mom had at the back of the property, but he not only maintained their garden but also those of his neighbors.
Dad contributed to the community in several ways. He served on the town council for two terms. He helped with the establishment of the seniors’ garden. He also was active at the St Elias Ukrainian Catholic Church, parish, and served on the board for the nursing home. Dad loved trees and with that, he was responsible for planting hundreds of trees around the edge of town, including by the nursing home and at the St Elias Church and Cemetery.
Dad loved woodworking, and that showed on the work that he did on his house. The woodworking continued around to other projects like helping at other people’s homes (measure twice, cut once!) He loved to camp and fish especially with his wife, Laverne and his family. Dad and Mom were known around town on how meticulous their yard was kept. The grandchildren will always remember the rides in the trailer which he pulled with the tractor.
He was a kind and generous man; we will miss him more than words can express.
A Funeral Liturgy was held for Nick on Saturday, September 20, 2025 at 2:00 pm from the St. Elias Ukrainian Catholic Church in Grandview with Rev Father Ivan Hnativ officiating.
Interment followed in the St. Elias Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery.
