Nicholas Stratuliak Obituary

Nick Stratuliak passed away, January 20, 2025 at the age of 94 at the Gilbert Plains Personal Care Home. Nick was born in Ethelbert, Manitoba, on December 12, 1930, to John and Kataryna Stratuliak.

Nick is survived by his wife Olga (Seminchuk), daughter Shirley (Gordon) Quo Vadis, son Larry, brother Steve (Helen), sister Adeline Husak, and many nieces and nephews.

Nick was predeceased by his parents, his brothers Mike (Margaret), Fred (Ann), Tony (Mary), Edward (Helen), sister Victoria (Matt) Burdeny, and brother-in-law Ron Husak.

In 1954 Nick married Olga Seminchuk of Fork River. They had a mixed farm five miles from Ethelbert and later their son, Larry, farmed with them. Nick built his own house and also most of the farm buildings with his son.

In his younger years, Nick and his brothers built bridges in the area. Nick and his brothers also logged and ran a sawmill. He enjoyed curling with family and friends. Hunting, fishing and picking mushrooms and berries were part of his life. You could find him helping in the garden and picking crab apples. His pastimes were watching sports, reading, spending time with the family dog and doing word search puzzles.

Nick and Olga travelled throughout Canada, stopping to visit relatives and friends along the way. Trips to Vancouver and Butchart Gardens and Niagara Falls were enjoyable. Hawaii was a highlight for their 25th wedding anniversary. Their 70th wedding anniversary was a milestone.

Nick believed in the resurrection hope, when loved ones will be reunited on earth and knew that when the promised earthly paradise would come, “death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore” (Rev 21:4)

The family wishes to thank the staff of the Gilbert Plains Personal Care Home, for their care and compassion during Nick’s time there.

A private graveside service will be held at the Riverside Cemetery, Dauphin.

Should friends so desire, donations in memory of Nick may be made to the Gilbert Plains Personal Care Home Activities Department.
