Minnie Sahulka Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Minnie Sahulka on September 23, 2025, at the age of 99 years. Minnie left peacefully on her own terms in the early morning with a beautiful blue sky marking her departure.

Minnie was born on June 10, 1926, in Fork River, Manitoba. She grew up working on the family farm and one day met the love of her life. On May 5, 1951, Minnie married her beloved husband, Peter Sahulka. Together, they raised 14 children on their family farm in the South Bay area. Minnie farmed alongside her husband while raising the children and running a busy household. Her greatest sense of enjoyment was visiting with family; sewing clothing for the children and home; creating colorful patchwork quilts, as well as knitting, crocheting, and embroidering. Gardening, berry picking and preparing preserves were also part of her daily work.

In 1992, Minnie and Peter retired from the farm to Winnipegosis due to Peter’s ill health. Minnie had to adjust to town life. In order to fill her days, she often picked up the phone and spoke with her children. Minnie continued to garden, on a much smaller scale, and tended to her flower gardens that many people drove by and admired. Minnie became a member of the New Horizon Senior Centre where she joined in various activities and socialized. She enjoyed attending many family functions and community events. Her house was always the hub where many family members stopped by for coffee or tea and fresh baking. In her later years, Minnie enjoyed working on puzzles and encouraged family members to join her.  At age 98 years of age, Minnie was still hoeing the garden, using her scooter to water plants, and was building contraptions to keep the deer off her vegetables.

Unfortunately, in August 2024, Minnie had her very first fall and broke her leg, which started a sequence of events. She miraculously pulled through surgery, then worked hard at rehabilitation, but eventually she lost full mobility. She was sad to leave her home but slowly adjusted to life in transitional care.

Throughout her life, Minnie was a hard worker, she was admired for her quiet strength, and for the grace and dignity with which she lived.  Minnie’s greatest legacy is her unwavering love for family and her ability to love unconditionally.

Minnie will be lovingly remembered and cherished by her children: Bill (Carolyn), Lawrence (Aileen), Terry (Len), (Pat deceased) son-in-law Dan, Sonia, Brenda, Joyce (Barry) Winnipeg, MB., Ted (Alice), Cindy (Bob), Elaine (Don) Brandon, MB., Loree (Al) Edmonton, AB., Richard (Lisa), Lavern, Lake Cowichan, BC., Reynold (Marie), as well as by her 31 grandchildren, 55 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great grandchildren.

"Dearest mom, thank you for loving and caring for all of us over the years. You gave us your heart and soul. We love you."

Minnie was predeceased by her husband, Peter, her parents, John and Anne Rosteski, sister Rosie Pascal, brothers Edward and Pete Rosteski, (along with numerous brother and sister-in-laws), as well as her two infant grandchildren Kenneth and Allyson as well as great grandson Rylinn. Minnie was the last member of her family and that generation to pass on.

A Funeral Service was held for Minnie on Friday, October 3, 2025 at 1:00 pm from the Sneath-Strilchuk Family Care Centre in Dauphin with Reverend Pat Langlois officiating.
