It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Mike Romaniuk on Monday, July 14th, 2025 at the age of 81. Mike leaves behind a legacy of love, hard work, kindness and a love of the outdoors that will never be forgotten.
Mike was born on November 1st, 1943, the second youngest child of Taras and Mary Romaniuk. Mike received his schooling at the Kulish School; while attending school, Mike also worked for neighboring farmers, often picking stones for a few dollars a day.
Mike also trapped and processed his pelts at a very young age and even fell out of a tree and broke his hip in pursuit of a squirrel. While Mike was still a teenager he went to work at Inco Mines as a welder in Thompson, Manitoba. After a year he then returned home and went to work at Dauphin Tire for the next 12 years. During this period, he purchased the land that his parents lived on before they retired to Thunder Bay.
On September 8th, 1966, Mike married Sylvia Wozny. The land they purchased became their home quarter where they started farming while still working at Dauphin Tire. In 1970 Mike, Sylvia and young son Michael moved permanently to the farm. Mike also purchased a registered trapline to help make a living and fulfil his love of the outdoors. Mike began a Guide and Outfitting business in which he ran for over 25 years. Mike met a lot of nice people and has become lifelong friends with many. Mike’s love and appreciation for the outdoors whether that be hunting, fishing, picking berries or mushrooms has been passed on to his children and grandchildren.
Gigi’s love for his grandchildren was easily apparent and the pride he had for them was immense. There is not a person Gigi has been in contact with, that has not been told about Cody becoming a mechanic, Emma becoming a nurse, Avery’s latest dance competition, Jenna’s swimming competitions or Aidan’s hockey or baseball game that Gigi had just attended. Mike’s grandkids have already felt the blow that comes with the huge devastating loss of their Gigi. They will miss him tremendously and his wisdom and also his endless teasing.
Mike is survived by wife Sylvia; children Michael (Kim), Lisa (Lyle) and Lori (Larry); brothers Russell, Orest (Donna) and David (Carole) along with his 5 grandchildren: Cody and Jenna Skulmoski and Emma, Avery and Aidan Wojciechowski.
Mike was predeceased by parents Taras and Mary Romaniuk; brothers Walter and Edward; sisters Alice and Sally.
A Funeral Service was held for Mike on Monday, July 21, 2025 at 1:00 pm from the Sneath-Strilchuk Family Care Centre in Dauphin.
Interment followed in the Sts. Peter & Paul Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery in Ethelbert, MB.
