Michael Hucal Obituary

It is with heavy hearts and beautiful memories that we announce the passing of Michael Nicholas Hucal on November 27, 2020 at the Gilbert Plains Personal Care Home.

Michael was born on November 14, 1946 to parents Dmetro and Anna (Hucal) Hucal, the youngest of their three sons.  He was diagnosed with a physical handicap at a very young age, and lived his entire life with his parents until their passing at which time he was able to stay in his home for the next few years with the help of his brother Sam (Sonia) and home care workers.

In 2014, he became a resident of the Gilbert Plains Personal Care Home until the time of his passing. He was known there by the staff as "Uncle Mike" or "King of Mink Creek".

Michael was a happy and gentle person and loved to play pranks on his nephews and nieces for which they loved him very much.  He never forgot the birthdays of his family and at Christmas time made special cards and small treat bags for everyone.

He loved to spend time with his nieces and nephew in Winnipeg where they would take him shopping, hockey games and other events.  In 2006, his niece Diane took him on a holiday to Disney World in Florida.  He came home with many wonderful memories and pictures which he loved to show to family and friends.

Michael was predeceased by his parents Dmetro and Anna, one aunt and many uncles.  He is survived by his two brothers Walter (Alice) and Sam (Sonia) of Mink Creek, 3 nephews, 8 nieces, many great nephews and nieces and 3 aunts.

Due to Covid 19, a private family Panakhyda and burial service will be held on December 5, 2020 at the Mink Creek Holy Trinity Cemetery where he will be laid to rest along side of his parents.

Thank you to Rev. Fr, Yaroslav Strukhlyak for his many visits to Michael and for the funeral service.

Thank you to the Home Care workers and the Gilbert Plains Care Home staff for their excellent care during his stay there and support and caring ways given to the family during the last few weeks.  We, the family of Michael are very grateful for all your thoughtfulness.

Thank you to Sneath-Strilchuk Funeral Home (Joe Coffey) for your guidance and support at this difficult time.
