Metro "Matt" Kukurudz Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family announce the passing of Matt Kukurudz, at the age of 88.  Matt was born on the family farm in Petlura, on August 21st, 1933, to Nick and Molly (Skomorowski).  He passed away peacefully in Grandview Personal Care Home on September 2, 2021 with his wife Jean by his side.

Matt went to Denepro School and attained his grade 8 education.  He was a farm boy and farmed most of his life.  For 17 years, without as much as one sick day, Matt was employed at the Grandview K-12 school, where his duties included janitor, maintenance/yard man, and bus driver; and sometimes all of these on one day!!  Matt will be remembered for the relationships he held with teachers and students from kindergarten to grade 12.  He took much pride in his own yard and garden; and also helped out many neighbors with their yard and garden work.  His greatest joy was time spent at family gatherings.  Matt was a kind, generous, quiet man, and when he wasn’t suffering with dementia, he was a wealth of information.  He made it his business to keep up on what was going on down the street or across town!!  Over the years, he and Jean restored the Old Mill House, where they resided for 37 years.  Matt was never afraid of work.  It didn’t matter if he was on top of the high-pitch roof, in the bush cutting the winter supply of wood, or cutting grass at the massive school yard; the proof was in his hard-working hands.  His brother Bill heard him once say when he was offered a drink: “No, not me, I already drank my share”!!  Matt was sober for 45 years.

Matt married the love of his life, Jean, on October 9th, 1975, and immediately became a step father to 2 teenagers, and a 12-year-old.  Acquiring an instant family surely had its challenges; however, Matt never complained nor shirked his responsibilities.  Matt and Jean then welcomed a son of their own in June 1976.

Left with fond memories are his wife Jean of 46 years; brother Bill in Sudbury; Brother-in- Law Bill White; son Jack (Angela); Step Daughter Jo-Anne (Delmar-also cousin); Step sons Shane Stogran (partner Christine); and Shawn Stogran (Brycee).  There are 2 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild; 5 step grandchildren; 6 step great grandchildren, and 1 on the way; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, and neighbors.

Matt is predeceased by his parents; his Mother-in-Law Agnes White; Father-in-Law Jack White; Sister Olga, Brother-in-law Rudy; Brother Stanley, Sister-in-Law Jenny; Brother Mike, Sister-in-Law Lena; Sister-in-Laws Olivia Kukurudz, Vera White, and Jimmi Morran; Brother-in-Law Dave Morran; as well as 3 siblings (2 girls and 1 boy) in infancy.

The family wish to express their deepest thanks and appreciation to Dr. Jacobi Elliott and all Personal Care Home Staff for their kindness and steadfast exceptional care.  Thanks also to Sonny and Sneath Strilchuk Family Care Center for their assistance.  Many thanks and appreciation also to Reverend Steve Wilson for his friendship, support, and comforting words.  If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Grandview Personal Care Home for their activities and recreational programs.
