It is with deep sorrow that our family announces the passing of Metro Brezden on August 11, 2025, at the St. Paul’s Personal Care Home. He was aged 99; one month short of his hundredth birthday.
Metro was born in the Fork River District on September 11, 1925 to Mike and Lena (Derhak) Brezden. He was the oldest of six children. The only surviving brother is the youngest Peter (Shirley) of Edmonton, AB.
On November 3, 1956, Metro married Florence Ksionzyk. They built their home in Dauphin where they raised their three children.
Metro was predeceased by his parents Mike and Lena; in-laws John and Mary (Seychuk) Ksionzyk; brothers Henri (Elsie), Melvin (Margaret), Archie (Leona); sister Stella (Walter) Gancher and brother-in-law Bill Bain (Gladys).
Metro leaves to mourn his passing and cherish fond memories, his wife Florence of 69 years; children Robert (Tanis Pshebniski) of Winnipeg, Debra (Tom) Dupley of Cranbrook, BC and Karen (Bruce) McPhee of Dauphin; his grandchildren, Lex and Zoe Dupley of Cranbrook, BC; brother Peter (Shirley) of Edmonton, AB; brother-in-law Ronald (Faye) of Winnipeg.
Metro had numerous jobs the first thirty years. He worked on the family farm in the Fork River District. He then purchased a backhoe and became a plumber and installed waterworks in rural homes. In 1979, Metro was hired by Northern Affairs as a plumber travelling for ten years to Northern communities looking after their water supplies. During retirement, he enjoyed tinkering in the garage with woodworking (furniture), welding and repairing things until he lost his eyesight to macular degeneration.
Metro became a resident at St. Paul’s Care Home on May 1, 2025.
The family will celebrate Metro's life privately.
If friends so desire a donation in memory of Metro may be made to the Parkland Humane Society in Dauphin, MB.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Matheson and Dr. Reed and all the staff who looked after Metro with kindness and compassion.
