Matthew Lacquette Obituary

It is with sadness that the family announces the passing of Matthew Abraham Lacquette on Sunday, February 23, 2020 at the age of 46 years.

Matthew was the youngest of 8 children born to Harry and Hilda (Mousseau) Lacquette.  He was raised in a Christian home and taught to respect the gospel of Jesus Christ. At the time of his birth the family resided in Ebb n Flow before moving to Mallard in July of 1976.  He attended Nursery to Grade 9 at Waterhen School. It was here that he developed and maintained lifelong friendships with both students and staff.  In school Matthew’s main focus was to socialize, laugh and have fun, with minimal learning involved as possible.  He would say he excelled in dance!  There were many fond stories he would tell about his fellow classmates and teachers.  One highlight of his school years was when he received recognition for a poem that he wrote in Grade 6 titled ‘Turn off the light’.

After completing Grade 9 he joined the work force and held many jobs in many towns, again always focusing on family, friends and having fun. He later attended Shingibis Adult Ed in 1994/95 in Waterhen with Larry Chartrand. Throughout the years Matthew worked at various jobs in Dauphin, Portage La Prairie, Ste. Rose and Ebb n Flow.

In April of 2005 he met the love of his life Karen and on October 1, 2011 they were married.  His names for her that everyone knew her as was ‘my Karen’ or ‘my wifey’. Matthew loved each of his children and spoke highly of them.  He was ecstatic when he heard the news that he was a grandparent.  Being a Choomie was one of the greatest milestones of his life.

Matthew loved spending time with family and friends.  He loved his children, grandchildren, nephews and nieces and great nieces and nephews very much and always had a nickname for each of them, or special way of greeting them. He was always in attendance at as many family and friend birthday parties and celebrations as possible.  He would often be the life of the party with his teasing and joking, not to mention his sporadic and spontaneous bursts of dance moves.  He also loved Christmas and it was very important for him to gather as many family members as possible to enjoy his favorite holiday, he would always say with a huge smile and his eyebrow raised high, ‘let’s have a potluck!... I’ll make the meatballs. Meanwhile we all knew it would be ‘his Karen’ making them.  Matthew enjoyed cooking, catering, preparing meals and BBQing.  Everyone knew how much he enjoyed sharing a meal with family and of course planning and having potlucks.

Before Matthew got very ill, he enjoyed the outdoors.  He loved hunting, fishing, gardening and planting with his best friend and brother Cyrus.

Though he was very sick in his last years he would spend hours walking and searching for treasures of scrap metal and days working on the copper, his findings and wires in his shed.

Matthew began home dialysis 4 1/2 years ago. Their home became a mini dialysis unit full of machines and medical supplies, and his Karen went for weeks to receive training for this. His Karen became his nurse and his driver to his many medical appointments.  His Karen became his masseuse for his many aches and pains, and his ear in which he could express the many happy highs and extremely painful lows, both physically and emotionally.

His Karen became his legs when he didn’t have the strength to even stand. His Karen was the one he laughed with, cried with, complained to and shared hopes and dreams with. His Karen was his love.

For the many hours hooked up to the dialysis machine Matthew would converse with others by telephone, Facebook, messenger and FaceTime. He loved his Chevy and Timmies and his Facebook posts would often reflect his opinions and loyalty to them.  He will be remembered for his good morning posts to everyone (except Cyrus LacQuette & whoever yanked his chain the day before). He would often share crazy pictures, usually a monkey, and refer to one of his siblings, Brenda, Joyce, Faye, or Marvin.

We find comfort in knowing that Dad, Mom, Wally and William will be waiting for you.

Matt you will be greatly missed and never forgotten.... we love you.
