Mary Tichon Obituary

Our dear mother, grandmother, great grandmother, Mary Tichon (nee Chubka) of Dauphin, MB, passed away peacefully with family by her side on November 1, 2018 at the Dauphin Regional Health Centre at the age of 97. Mary was the only daughter born to John and Pearl Chubka, she had three brothers, George, John, and Slowko.
Mary was born on August 20, 1921. She was born in the Ukraine and immigrated to Canada with her parents in May 1926. After travelling and living in various places in Canada they settled north west of Bicton Heath School in the Winnipegosis/Fork River area.
Mary received her education at the Bicton Heath School. She worked on the family farm, helping with the farm chores. Mary married John Tichon in 1938. John and Mary kept on farming till 1971. At that time they sold their farm to their son and moved to Dauphin, MB. Mary worked as cook in the Community Hotel for the next eight years. She retired in 1980 and was kept busy making quilts and afghans for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In 2005, John and Mary sold there house and moved into Lorray Manor. In 2015 Mary moved into the Dauphin Personal Care Home.
 Mary was predeceased by her husband John Tichon; her parents, John and Pearl Chubka; her 2 brothers, George and John; her in-laws Peter and Caroline Tichon; son-in-law Jack Paddock; sister-in-law Elsie Chubka.
She is survived by three sons, Edward (Margaret), John (Pearl), Bill (Patricia); and three daughters, Elsie Paddock, Patricia (Terry Bencharski), Janet (John Close); one brother Slowko; one sister-in-law Ann Chubka; also 16 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren.
 
Prayers were offered on Thursday, November 8, 2018 at 6:30 pm with Rosary beginning at 6:00 pm from St. Viator's Roman Catholic Church in Dauphin, MB.

Funeral Mass was held on Friday, November 9, 2018 at 11:00 am from St. Viator's Roman Catholic Church in Dauphin,  MB with Father John Legitimas officiating.  Interment followed in Riverside Cemetery in Dauphin, MB.  Pallbearers were Roger Tichon, Trevor Paddock, Tarrah Jakubowski,  Deidre Bale, Dean Bencharski, Dillon Close.
