Mary Sowtis of Dauphin, Manitoba passed away on Sunday, August 31, 2025 at the age of 87 years.
Mary was born in Rosevalley, Saskatchewan, and was the eldest of four children. She married her high school sweetheart, Metro Sowtis, and enjoyed 43 wonderful years together. They then farmed in Rossburn and raised four children: Terry (Heather), Patricia, Gerald (Priscilla), and Lesia (Chris). Mary was also blessed with many grandchildren—Derrick (Toni), Samantha (Nathan), Dylan, Riley (Deena), Jaydon, Tatum, and Metro—as well as great-grandchildren Aurora, Liam, Ethan, Keira, Elias, and Theo.
Mary was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, baba, aunt, cousin and loved getting together with friends. She enjoyed playing baseball in her younger years, as well as cards, Scrabble, fishing, and especially loved to dance and sing. Over the years, she worked hard on the family farm in Rossburn, later at a bakery, and eventually as a home care provider in Dauphin. She then retired to Sifton, and in her final years resided at the Saul and Claribel Simkin Centre in Winnipeg.
A Funeral Service was held for Mary on Friday, September 12, 2025 at 2:00 pm from the St. George's Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Dauphin with Rev. Father Brent Kuzyk officiating.
Interment followed in the Riverside Cemetery.
