Mary Galay (nee Kolochuk), aged 99, of Dauphin, passed away on Monday, June 14th, 2021 at St. Paul's Personal Care Home. Mary was born at home in Volga on May 17th, 1922 to Peter and Anne Kolochuk (nee Monchka).
Mary attended school until grade 8 at the Don School. In 1938 at the age of 16, she married Metro who lived in Weiden.  They started their family with Gloria in 1943, Sylvia in 1945, and Stan in 1946.
Years of hard farm work and raising three children kept her busy all the time. Mary always thought one should work hard for all they got and that is how she lived. She sewed a lot - even the girl's grad dresses.  The garden was always huge and it was easy to pick 18 pails of peas for shelling and canning. Every August a trip was made to Oak Brae to pick 8 pails of cranberries.
Mary served on the executive for the Weiden Hall and church. She loved to sing at mass in church.
In 1979 Mary and Metro moved to Dauphin to retire. Here they had a bit more time to visit family and friends, and play cards which Mary enjoyed. They still went to the farm often to help with haying and keep on planting a large garden.
In 1996 Mary's husband passed away and she kept up her home until the fall of 2019 when she went into a personal care home.
She was also predeceased by her siblings, John, Olga, Walter and Lena.
She leaves to mourn her passing her 3 children, Gloria (Ray), Sylvia (Leo), Stan (Agnes), her 10 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren; her sister Helen (Walter) Biletski, her brothers Mike and Bill (Sylvia) Kolochuk and nieces, nephews and friends.
The family would like to thank the homecare staff at St. Pauls for their care and concern.
