Mary Antosh Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Antosh (Midzain) on December 2, 2025, at the age of 88.

Mary was one of four children born in Merridale to John and Rosie Midzain. She was predeceased by her parents, older sister Sophie Ostrowski and younger brother Victor. She is survived by her brother Walter in B.C.

Mary was raised on the family farm in Merridale. She shared many stories about the animals they raised, catching frogs in the pond with her brothers and going to school in a one-room schoolhouse. It was during the years on the farm that she developed a special relationship with her nieces Phyllis and Judy, a bond that remained throughout her life.

In 1956, Mary and Tom Antosh were married and together they raised five rambunctious children. She was very involved in their activities from making skating costumes and teaching them to drive, to filling in on the boys’ pick-up baseball team when they were short of players. She always welcomed the neighbourhood kids to the house and often fed more than her own five.

Mary had many interests including sewing, knitting, crocheting, and in her younger years curling. She took pride in her yard and flowers and always had a big garden, the products of which she canned, cooked or shared. She loved to read community history books, watch Blue Jays games with Tom and do crossword puzzles, especially in her later years.

Mary and Tom also enjoyed travelling throughout the province and on farther trips to Alberta, B.C., and Oklahoma. They also made several trips to Winnipeg for weddings, graduations and other special events.

Mary was a member of the St. John’s Orthodox Women’s Association, where she served as Treasurer for many years. She enjoyed working side-by-side with the other members, singing in the choir and delivering Meals on Wheels.

Mary was predeceased by her husband of 68 years, Tom. She is survived by her children Andy (Gudrun), Angela (Arnie), Melvin, Morris (Alison), and Sandra (Denis). She is also survived by her grandchildren Matthew (Jill), Caitlin and Christopher, and great grandsons Otto and Arlo.

A Funeral Service was held for Mary on Saturday, December 6, 2025 at 11:00 am from the St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Roblin with Very Rev. Fr. Brent Kuzyk officiating.

Interment followed in the St. John the Baptist Orthodox Cemetery.
