Mary Adamowski Obituary

Mary Emily Adamowski (nee Hrominchuk) passed away Sunday, May 18th at the Dauphin Regional Health Center.  She was 92 years old and had resided at St. George’s Place in Dauphin, MB.
Mary Emily Adamowski (nee Hrominchuk) was born into the Zelena district of Ethelbert on April 21, 1933.  She was the only one of her siblings born in a hospital in Ethelbert.  Her parents were John and Mary Hrominchuk (nee Zazuliak).  She was the youngest of 5 children  Anne, Pauline, Jean and Metro and her.  She started school at 6 yrs of age at Zelena, 2 miles away from her home.  She attended school until the end of grade 7 having had the same teacher from grade 2 to grade 7.  She and her best friend, Julie, spent almost all their time together and reunited frequently over the years until Julie’s death in 2015.   She grew up on the farm, milking cows, stooking sheaves, gardening, berry and mushroom picking and preserving.   In 1947 she moved to Minitonas, MB with her parents where they took up logging.  It was there at the age of 15 that she met the man who would be her greatest love, our dad, Joe Adamowski.  They dated for 2 years and were married on May 18th, 1950.  Mom passed on what would have been their 75th anniversary. They lived in Minnitonas for a few years and then moved to Dad’s farm in Pine River.  They spent the remainder of their lives together on that same farm in the Rosa District. Mom was an accomplished cook and was sought after by a commercial fishing operation at God’s River, MB so leaving their 2 young daughters in the care of their Baba, mom and dad ventured out there where mom did all the cooking.  Twenty years later the owners started the God’s River Fishing Lodge for the fly in fishermen who frequented the northern fishing paradise. After their family was raised, they continued this practice seasonally  until the lodge closed down. Mom then took various cooking jobs with construction companies, CP rail and worked at Blue Lake Lodge.  At the age of 65 she was diagnosed with breast cancer but survived and beat it.   After dad passed away in 2001 mom moved to Dauphin to a home on Wakefield Ave.  She enjoyed her home and garden.  She made many friends.  She walked every day from the time she was in her early 40’s up until her passing.  She was bitten by the travel bug and made numerous trips to Branson, the Maritimes, Mackinaw Island, Alaska and Scotland. In 2011 she was diagnosed with lung and bowel cancer.  After surgery and treatment she once again survived and thrived.  In November of 2015 she moved into St. Georges Place.  She absolutely loved living there and reveled in the activities and friendships she made.  She had always had a love for jig saw puzzles and spent a part of every day at the puzzle table.  She never missed Bingo.   She made many new friends during her time living in Dauphin but she always kept close to her Rosa friends, Shirley Prysiazniuk, Gloria Parsons and until her passing, her friend Joan Arneson.  Holidays and special occasions were always spent with her children and their families.  She hosted wonderful dinners at her home until her move to St. Georges. She had another bout of bowel cancer last year and at the age of 90 survived major surgery and lived another year until her death.
She is survived by her daughters Marge Knowlton (Bruce) of Delta B.C., Elizabeth “Ezzy” Winters (Craig) of Dauphin, Mary Ellen “Tootsie” Parsons (Kelly) of Swan River. Grandchildren Mandy Adamowski (Jamie Cummings), Chelsey Adamowski, David Winters, Shannon Winters (Emil Sosnowski), Nicholas Winters, Brooke Knowlton (Cam Ellis), Kathryn Parsons (Jordan Basso), Christina Parsons and Sara Parsons (Andriy Marchyshyn) .
Great grandchildren Emmett and Everleigh Basso, Peter and Anastasia “Annie” Sosnowski as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents John and Mary Hrominchuk, in- laws Nick and Mary Adamowski, her husband Joseph Adamowski, sons Joey and Bill Adamowski, daughter- in-law Ruth Menear, grandson Brucie Knowlton, her sisters Anne Burla, Pauline Kinaschuk, Jean Odeski and her brother Metro Hrominchuk,  brothers in-law Nick Burla, Nick Kinaschuk, Bill Odeski and sister- in- law Mary Hrominchuk,  Helen and Joe Kolodichuk, Annie and Walter Piskor, Mike and Lorraine Adamowski.
She will be missed by her children and grandchildren, all her friends at St. Georges, her long time Rosa friends and her special neighbour friends Josephine Smelski and Maxine Tkachuk.
